I'm interested in entering this competition but do not know how far the event is from Cardiff. Could you let me know a how you enter and what I need to do.

The 3rd Northern Ireland Bog Snorkelling Championship will take place at Peatlands Park on Saturday 28 July 2007. The drain has been extended this year to the same length as the World Championship course in Llanwrtyd Wells (2 60-yard lengths). We would love to have the Welsh title holders over to compete against us. Visit our website at www.ehsni.gov.uk/petlands to find out more and to download an Entry Pack. Completed applications must be returned by 29th June. It's free to enter and there are some great flight deals from Cardiff to Belfast. Looking forward to seeing you there!

I braved the bog for a TV shoot with "The Thirsty Traveller" - after a few beers and some Penderyn Whisky I figured that the bog would be no problem at all, despite it being only May (the championships are held in August!). However, it was utterly knackering and I was rather surprised and pleased to have survived it at all by the end of the two length stint. Of course, I will now have to return to the bog in August and set a better time in slightly warmer ooze!

I have completed the bog snorkel on one occasion, what can I say... hard work but great fun. I didn't break any speed records, but didn't expect too. Anyway how many other people can say they have done it, it's taking part that matters. It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it!!

My son Matthew and his prospective mother-in-law June Newman braved the bog for the first time. (Got to be a joke there somewhere !!) Sad to report that both were beaten by the bog (this time !) Great fun, pity about the weather...I suspect the bog was warmer...but I wasn't going to find out !

Zero visibility, all sorts of things swimming in the ooze and utterly knackering, but great fun. Once might be enough mind. Looking forward to the results now. Well done Llanwrtyd.

'Twas wicked fun! Got there a bit late and there were already sixes and sevens at the competition site.
Didn't think I'd take the plunge but I did. Came in 34th.

I travelled to the tiny town with a group of friends to watch the bog snorkelling, and i can honestly say there was not one moment when i was tempted to get in the bog! Bank holiday Monday was cold, wet and miserable, but it was a great atmosphere and a brilliant laugh. Note to self;pack wellies next year. I was with the inflatable sumo snorkellers and i can confirm that the suits are still in full working order(after a couple of washes) and were worn on New Years Eve.
See you next year!

Wait, so what is this? How many people actually do it?! What do you have to do? What are the Rules?

A few friends and I went along for the second year running, and I took part for the first time.
As it was uncomfortably cold stood in jeans, jumpers and coats, I wasn't relishing stripping down to swimshorts and jumping in. And someone told us a couple of people had been taken to hospital with hypothermia after taking part, which didn't do much for the confidence.
Still, I went through with it and can confirm it's a lot harder than it looks! I managed 62nd place in the end and was happy with that; top 50 next year!
