Info Centres

Town clock

Last updated: 13 April 2007

Concerned about the loss of the Tourist Information Centre, regeneration group L.L.A.N.I. Ltd opened its own Visitor Information Centre on Tuesday 3 April. Nick Venti, Llani Ltd's regeneration officer wrote about the venture in April 2007:

"The Centre will seek to boost information provision and the new Tourism Support Officer, Sharon Jones, will work alongside Powys County Councils new Customer Service point which opened in the Library in March.

P&C Taxis will also operate its new Taxi Office out of the Visitor Centre, helping to cover the costs of running the office and providing a much welcomed presence in the town.

Though we are in receipt of grant funding to set up the Info Centre we still have to generate income from this project, both to match fund the grant we will be receiving and to ensure that the centre is sustainable in future years.

We will also be looking to offer local businesses the chance to advertise through the Centre, and we also have more space available for businesses looking for a location from which to run tourism related services.

To give a bit of background on this - this has come about because L.L.A.N.I. Ltd looked at how information provision could be boosted in Llanidloes following responses from Powys County Council, which made it clear that given financial constraints it was impossible for the fully networked Tourist Information Centre to be maintained in the town.

The amalgamation of services at the library was the only way that the council could maintain any level of tourist information provision.

Our interest in this is simple. We have spent a lot of time and money in developing marketing initiatives which we believe will boost the number of visitors to the area, and we want to ensure that when they get here, those visitors have easy access to as much information as possible.

The grant funding obtained will enable L.LA.N.I. Ltd to staff the Centre for 24hrs a week."

The hours that will be covered are:

Library

Mon/Sat: 10am-2pm
Tues/Thur: 4.30pm - 7pm
Wed/Fri:10am-5pm

Llani Ltd Information Centre

Tue/Thur/Sat:9am-4.30pm
Fri: 9am-12pm

For further queries, or if you are a business and you would like to display your details at the new Centre please call 01686 412287.

Well done on this initiative. Of course Llanidloes needs a TI, there are so many attractions in the town not to mention the dam a few miles away.So well done on this intiative, Llanidloes dead? Not on this evidence.
