"Hometown to BBC 1's, Eastender, Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) and local to 'The Cure's' Robert Smith, this small but thriving Mid Wales community is not unlike a live modern day soap together with a diverse enough music and craft culture to whet the appetite of any experience traveller!
Welcome to Llanidloes, Powys!
Based within the ancient county of Montgomeryshire, Mid-Wales, Llanidloes has its fair share of medieval history and crafts together with its grasp on the modern super highway and technology.
Once a focal point for the local lead mining and textile industry back in the 1600s together with its own successful flannel industry, Llanidloes boasts a wealth of historic attractions and interesting walks - from visiting the many historic buildings, museum and churches to trekking the river Severn; nearby Hafren forest and the vast Llyn Clywedog dam including a preserved lead mine. Energetic, fast and exciting daily activities are also available from motor sport, climbing, abseiling, boating and biking giving any age group a daily fun filled choice!
With Llanidloes being a rugby loving town you will soon find out that sport is very much a part of the community, bringing together all ages, male & female taking part in football, hockey, pool, snooker, darts, dominoes and golf which is why the town has two gyms, swimming pool, football, rugby and golf club and snooker rooms.
Come the weekend, the streets are alive with market traders and local residents, with its many quaint street cafés serving homemade delights and craft shops you begin to forget the towns small 3000+ community & feel welcomed as part of the community.
As the weekend evening draws on, the nine public houses and nightclub, all in extremely close proximity to each other should be more than enough entertainment to see you through the night, all friendly and welcoming, some offering food & accommodation, others live entertainment and culture!
While the energetic will filter off to the nearby chic Barcode nightclub, others will settle for the local Indian restaurant, Chinese takeaway, kebab house or late night chip shop to round off their fun filled day!
If any of the above still doesn't get your 'curiosity-to-visit' head out, then you could always visit on the first Friday of July, any year, where Llanidloes will be transformed, for one day, into the 'Notting Hill Carnival' of Wales, over 20,000 visitors, all in fancy dress and having the time of their life!
So, thinking you have been cast in a modern day soap, Llanidloes can be addictive and refreshing, exciting and relaxing, a change and home! .....it was for me!"

I think that Llani is one of the most beautiful places on earth and I miss it everyday, I think you have to live there to truly understand the lifestyle...

Why the negative vibe Mr Higgins? I moved here in 1982 and still believe Llanidloes to be a special town, a haven in a crazy world of violence lies, greed and deceit. You really need to reveiw your reviews! In essence, a wonderful place. Not to mention the surrounding countryside(oops I just did.)

I agree with Mrs Higgins. Since the new licensing laws have come into place, the town has seen its fair share of Friday night mayhem! Increased trouble, fights, gangs of yobs. Ive seen it all. Llani used to be a nice quiet town, but now this is not the case!

I am a good friend of Simon's & have been a frequent visitor to Llani over the past 3 years - and it is an amazing place!
All the locals are very friendly - always make you feel at home. Each pub has it's own personality, and it is a shame that you can't get to drink in every one on each visit!! The countryside surrounding is stunning too, and there is a huge amount of character in all the local buildings - Simon's home itself is a true land-mark.
Here's to many more visits in 2007...

I have heard a rumor through the old Llani grapevine that the superb magic act Elwyn & Elwyn have reformed and are performing their amazing tricks in and around the public houses of llani? Their slight of hand is out of this world and should perform on Tv. I once went to see them in Trefeglwys village hall where that night one of my frends got stuck up a tree, that was one hell of a night, we had a riot! of course, we could not get a lift home and sang songs of baron ice cream vans and beans full ofrum.

I would be interested to know from the newcomers to the area, how many of you paid a price for your house that was far in excess of what a person brought up locally and earning the local average wage could afford? Before you get all holier than thou with me I am not trying to make a point about housing and I do know that the vendors are just as guilty for being greedy. My gripe is that you are rapidly turning the area anglo saxon. I have seen the area change rapidly in the last 30 years and although the language may survive because of compulsary inclusion in the school syllabus the celtish blood lines that have remained fairly pure for the last two thousand years are very quickly becoming mongrolised.

My wife and I have been here for nearly 3 years and have never had such a good life. Friendly people and a wonderful atmosphere. Mrs Higgins must live in a different town to me as lots of the shops are spending money and improving and the amount of trouble in town seems to be reducing now

I can't compare llanidloes to the way it was 5 years ago either, but, what I can say is that since I moved to the town almost 3 years ago, I have found it to be a nice, calm and friendly town.Love it!

I can't really compare Llani to the way it was five years ago, Mrs Higgins, but what I can say is that, since I discovered it in January of this year, the town has proved itself to be a thriving, friendly happy community where there is plenty to do for those that wish to find it, in the midst of the most beautiful countryside in the UK - and even the weather has had most of Europe beaten hollow this summer!
