My parents live in Llanfyllin, i myself have been all over the world and i have to say that the view from the Lonely Tree when there is a blanket of snow all around is one of my most favourite images along with The Northern Lights, Vatican City and Antarctica.

I visited LLanfyllin recently on my quest to find ancestors. The lady in the library was really friendly and helpful, I managed to find my Great Grandfather John Jones who died 1914 whilst living at 12 Bridge Street. He had a number of children including Edith( a contralto singer) David and Joseph who emigrated to America. My Grandma lived up until 1944 at Bryn Hafod LLanfyllin. Anyone who has any information about any of these,I would be really pleased to hear from them

I have been tracing my family tree and most of my maternal granfathers family come from Llanfyllin. The furthest back I have got(to date) are William and Margaret Foulkes (b1782 and 1790). I have also just discovered that another realtion, James Lee (b1866) is listed on the 1901 census as a Coffee House Keeper with the address being the Temperence Hotel (which I believe was on Market Street). I have not yet visited Llanfyllin, but I hope to do so this year.

I was born in Maesbury and although I left there was I was small, I recall that my grandfather was born in Llanfyllin. I have been researching and it turns out that I can trace my Evans family line back 200+ years (at least) all in Llanfyllin. The census reports (1841, 1851) refer to 'Heniarth Gate' as the address where my ancestors lived (at least 2 gens), but I can find no (web) map reference to it. Does anybody (local) know this address or what stands there now?

I've recently stared looking into my family history and have found that my great-great grand parents, Jim and Jane Roberts lived at 10 Bridge Street Llanfyllin Powys, in the mid-late 19th century. I know they had a daughter Rachel (my great grand-mother) but know very little else. I presume they or Rachel left Llanfyllin for Ruthin (North Wales) as this is where my grandmother (Rachel's daughter, Jane Ellen Williams) was born and brought up. I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has any information about the above or about Llanfyllin itself.

When I was much younger than I am now, for many years through my teens myself and many friends used to travel through Llanfyllin every weekend travelling to Capel Bethania, Lake Vernwy. We used to stop in Llanfyllin every Friday night to buy fish & chips from the little shop which was run by a lovely lady named Marrion. After fish and chips it was a quick drink in the pub next door and then continue on our journey to Lake Vernwy. I now live in Australia and in December '05 I visited England and drove to Lake Vernwy via Llanfillin smiled with the memories I have from 30 years ago.

Llanfyllin is an ancient Welsh Borough. It received its charter from a native Prince of Wales in the 13th century. It's very intact as a small town with all the facilities of a town. Much more than you'd expect from a community of its size. A natural centre for the area and very much a town.
