Hi guys, it's been a while since i've been on this site but seeing it again just reminded me of the wonders that are to behold at the beautiful town of Llanfyllin and in particular this wonderful area of heritage and culture - the lonely tree. I'm no longer the immature kid that i was before and am in a loving and committed relationship with the love of my life Zo. I plan to use this super duper area of the world to pop the question before buying a house in Aber and settling down for life. Don't worry though i'll be back to see this staggerring piece of nature as much as humanly possible. I love it.

A rock face below the 'several trees' is full of fossils (sea shells). The small quarry to the west of the lonely tree has rock layers showing wave formation.

I remember many a holiday as a child, visiting my grandparents Lily and Tom, who lived in Llanfyllin, climbing up to the lonely tree. A quiet place away from it all, where you were able to admire the lovely views. I have some great memories of our time spent as a family up the lonely tree. There would always be a race up the hill, first one to the tree. Hope to pop up that way & visit the tree again, with my daughter.

The lonely tree remindes me of a classmate Herbert Lewis of Greenhall in Llanfyllin County School in late 1940's. He often talked of it and I then wished visit. Alas, when I was in the Airforce abroad I was told he was killed in a car accident.

I grew up in Llanfyllin and have many fond memories of walking over most of the grounds around the local area. I especially joyed making the trek up to the Lonely Tree to see the awesome views! I remember that we used to go to the Lonely Tree for nature walks in primary school. The first time I brought my Australian wife back to the village, I showed her the Lonely Tree and I would like to do the same with our children one day.

In the 60's we would take a picnic up to the Lonely Tree on sunny Sunday afternoons and soak in the wonderful views. On the way up, where the path divides for the Several Tree, we would drop coins into the little spring and make a wish. Coming back down at dusk, the hillside would be lit by thousands of glow worms.

My favourite place in the world too, I have 4 framed pictures of the Lonely tree on my walls in Amsterdam. Usually manage a walk up to the tree with my friend Julia when visiting Llanfyllin. My heart beats a little faster every time we drive past and get that first glimpse and then I can make some more photos......

Its a fabulous tree and a magic spot... just remember to take your rubbish back with you... there's nasty bonfire scar nearby that footpath now, full of junk and cheap lager bottles. What is the matter with people today???PS. Remember that the tree is on private ground, respect it... Please!

I grew up within view of the Lonely Tree and spent many happy hours up there as a boy. I still manage to get up there about once a year and think about it very often along with the wonderful rolling hills around Llanfyllin.

Just a shout out to say that the lonely tree is fabby and I really am in love with the place. Me, Rebecca and Leah used to come up here to play games and stuff. I now live in wonderful Brithdir, but I have to say that I am sad we dont have our own lonely tree. If you look closely at the tree I assure you that you will be able to see the face of a mysterious creature. This is the face of Amara, the old ferral child of Llanfyllin.

This site brings both happiness and yet saddness to me for when i was a young gal my father wd take me up ther and tell me stories about the gud old days of llanfyllin! ahhh such gud times! but it is also a place wher you can escape the husslebussle of town life and get away from it all! this is a sacred and beautiful site that should be cherishsed by generations to come.

We used to do cross country running up to the Lonely Tree when I was in high school in Llanfyllin. I loved cross country running, but was always last! When I visit home and pass the tree upon the hill it always reminds me of the happy times I had in school.

Recently my partner and I (soon to be wife) have had a little boy. This gave us a new out look on life and concerns we never thought we would have. We started to think about buying our own house as we had been traveling as musicians for years and wanted to give our boy a safe and stable enviroment to grow up in. We started the hunt for somewhere and we cannot believe our luck that we have found somewhere in Llanfyllin. Having visited sice we found the property, we have found everyone to be polite and friendly, which in the times we live in is a rarity (I know I spend a lot of time in London!) We hope to move in before Christmas and look forward to introducing ourselves to everyone over the next few years.

I remember the Lonely Tree from when the workhouse was an adventure centre.
The Challenge Adventure Centre. I used to take lovely walks up to the Lonely Tree and remember it fondly. I hope the workhouse is restored; I was curious to know what had happened to it and decided to look on the internet. I used to holiday, live and work there when it was the adventure centre. I have never given the lonely tree a hug. Maybe I will if I ever visit again.
