Hey! Llanfair is a really nice place! I had been there for approx 3 months and it was unforgottable! The first impression is that at this village there is not nothing to do, but when you know people it is really entertaining.

Mikie Barlow, Llanfair
It aynt a bad place for all the older people and people visiting but if your a young person whos lived in llanfair all your life you can't wait to see the back of it. Not enough facilities for teenagers, thats why they get up 2 no good, boredum! Apart from that tho its a nice, quiet and friendly village. Llanfair could do without all the sad acts who just gossip and make things up tho because they got nothing better to do with themselves.

Ceri - Llanfair

Hi, the last comment I posted was probably almost 2 years ago...Caereinion High School has grown on me.....a little too much I think! Haha!! It's a great school but I don't like school. You get me? Anyway I STILL think Llanfair is a great place to live. I went to the Red Lion Pub last night - never been before in the SEVEN years I've lived here! - and it was fab. I played darts with my mate Molly. She's 10 and she beat me. Twice. Out of three!! Oh well. Llanfair, you're the best!!!

Debra Rushani from Woodville, North Adelaide
My father George Cross went to school in Llafair Caereinion. He would like to get in contact with Allen Henshaw, his cousin, if he would like to call us.

My father came from Llanfair until he left to join the RAF in 1938. As small children my brother and I used to visit our grandparents who lived at School House until my granmother died (buried in the churchyard) and my grandfather then went to live with my aunt in Nottingham. I took my father to visit Llanfair the last time that he was over in the UK (went to live in Rhodesia - but that's another story) in the early 80s. I've visited a couple of times on my visits back to the UK (emigrated when I left the RAF in 1993). I'm planning to pay another visi! t in July 2009 to show my new wife some of the marvellous places I knew as a child.Toodyay (pronounced 2J) is as close a twin to Llanfair as it is possible to imagine. Have a look on Google Earth and have a wander through the town in Street View. We've even got a miniature railway!!

Colin Walker from Barnsley, South Yorkshire
I am a lecturer in education at Huddersfield University in Yorkshire, and am coming to Llanfair Caereinion for a few days in late July in order to conduct some research into civil religion and commemoration, particularly with regard to war memorials. I intend to visit a dozen or so memorials within a fifteen or so mile mile radius, and also make contact with people in the town who have 'stories to tell'. Any assistance with my project would be much appreciated.

Taid fawr was born in Llanfair in 1836 (John Jones - easy to find!!) and Nain fawr was born in Llanwyddelan in 1834/5 (Ann Jones - makes it easier still!!!). I'm going to come and stay in Llanfair in the near future. Please has anyone any tips. And does anyone know of photos of Llanwyddelan on the web?One of the possibilities (from the 1841 census) for Ann's place of birth is Little Walk Mill. Does anyone know where this was/is - I can't find it on any of the maps, including a contemporary OS map. Another possibility is Penygaer, Just to the west of Llanwyddelan. Are there any local wizards I should talk to?

Keri
I'm now in Llanfair Caereinion High School and it's great!I recommend Llanfair for it's great schools!

I went to High School in Llanfair 77-80 and must admit of the three comprehensives I attended this was the best, beautiful setting as well.

Rhodri Morgan-Jones from Melin-y-ddol
I love Llanfair Caereinion and am looking forward to attending this years Annual Show on Saturday 1 September. I have heard that Powys Ready Mixed Concrete, from Welshpool, have given all their staff a day off, with pay, to enable them to attend The Show this year - Good for them I say.

Gaynor Egan, Nr Norwich
My great-grandfather ran an outfitters/drapers shop in LC, his name was Edward Lloyd Edwards. They lived in the adjoining house, which was called Cambrian House. I know that this has been a b&b, is it still operating as such? My mother took my grandmother back to visit a few years ago and revived many happy memories of the family.

Sam Gomm
I lived in Llanfair Caereinion for 24 years and I think it's a great place to live. I will be back next month to play in the black lion on 11 August .

Brian Davies from Calgary Alberta, Canada
Hello, after my family (Barb Davies) did some research I found out my Grand Father came from somewhere near your town. His name was Samuel Davies and my Grand Mother's name was Maude Davies (Evans). His brothers name is/was John Percy Davies and he aparently lived near your town.I think the Davies still farm at the bottom of the hill, not sure what that means, but I hope it means something to someone over there. If anyone can send me any information about my family I would appreciate it. My wife and I are planning a trip over there next summer and hope to look up some of my relatives.Sorry, my name is Brian Samuel Davies Grand son of Samuel T Davies who left there for Canada around 1930.

Carole Humphries from Ailsworth, nr Peterborough
I visited Llanfair Caereinion last week and thought your town was v interesting. I was looking for links to my g. g. grandfather William Abraham Jones b. 1837. I managed to find his mother in law's grave in the tidy church yard, Bridget Rowlands d 1866. The Deri woods were lovely. Does any one remember this family? My great grandmother was Bertha Adelaide Jones. WE will return!

Julie Milne from Llanfair Caereinion
Llanfair is a brilliant place to live and bring up a family, there is a wonderful community here. I was brought up in Manchester and feel very lucky to live in Llanfair now.Walks in the Deri woods are pleasant. The Goat is good for a reasonable meal. The bakery is a good place to meet up with local people for a chat. Would not want to live anywhere else.

Andrea Allen (nee Mason), in Toronto, Ontario, Can
I was raised in Llanfair by my grandparents, and went to National School. After moving to England with my parents in 1947/8, I returned every summer for the holidays, until I married and moved to the U.S. I consider Llanfair my home and have such wonderful memories. The last time I visited was in 1981, so I'm due for another. I'm a descendant of the Astleys, Paynes and Theodores.Hope I can make some connections through this site.

Keri

I used to go to the high school in 1984. I found the school to be of great education and skills...I loved the town when I got my chance to go in my lunch time. I would love to talk to and see some of the people there in the school from when I started there, I did not have many friends there, But I did get on with the girls alot. I would really like to have a school photo from when I was there in 1984 to 1988, as I had to leave due to me moving away, So if anyone does remember a little shy boy who tried to keep himself to himself, then give me a buzz.

Judy Elmore Sec Llanfair Bowling Club.

I went to school in Llanfair, both primary and the new high school, leaving in 1956. I am now trying to trace family back to 1903. The photos you show bring back happy memories of my time living in Hassel Square, a safe place to grow up.

LD Llanfair Caereinion
I love Llanfair and all its people. It's a very friendly place to live the only thing I resent is that richer people from other parts of the uk buy houses here and push the property prices up making it very difficult for young people to buy in this area. Otherwise it is lovely and all the local people make it so welcome.

Rebecca
I'm one of the pupils at llanfair's primary school and i think its great.

Looking forward to staying at Llanfair soon to see if there's any vibes around roots. My great grandfather was born in Llanfair Caereinion in 1837. His occupation was set out as 'driver'. I don't have his birthplace address. Hoping to find out more but an almost impossible task as his name was John Jones! - and he married Ann Jones, born in 1836 at Llanwyddelan. In the 1861 census they are in Welshpool at the Wheatsheaf in Birriew (sic) Street and down as 'servants at the inn'. Any tips for further info anyone?

Zara

Hugh Sansom, New York, NY
My father went to school in Llanfair Caereinion in the 1930s. I've been to the area several times -- gorgeous -- what a welcome difference from the massive city in which I live! More about the history and especially the people in the area would be great.

Len Bosworth from Llanfair Caereinion
It’s a lovely place. People are so friendly and so welcoming. It’s a really nice community.

Norma from Llanfair
My husband and I are from England. We bought an old chapel building, not knowing whether we’d live here or not but people were very encouraging and by the time we’d inished converting the chapel, didn’t see the point of living anywhere else. We've been made to feel very welcome. It’s a very friendly town. Everyone knows everybody else. It’s a proper community.
