Can anybody assist me to find the historical birth records for my grandfather Alexander Charles Llewellyn who was born in Llandyssul on 7th November 1871. I would like to find out about the family, what they did and how long they lived in Llandyssul, and who were Charles' parents and siblings, his father's name was possibly John. Of the brothers and sisters the names could have been John, Margaret, Tavid and others

Does anyone have any details of a dentist who lived and worked in Llandysul during the late 1940s, 1950s and perhaps early 60s? His name was Pered ??? 'something'. His mother, known to us as Auntie Jane lived near the river, and I think an 'Auntie' May also lived there too. The family is related to me, I think the mother was an auntie to my father, with most of the family from Mid Montgomeryshire. I know the dentist sadly took his own life but have no details. I visited once, maybe twice, in about 1958 or 59ish. Any information very much appreciated. Hoping to visit the area in near future.

I stayed with my grandparents many times during and after the 2nd world War, a little way, about a mile beyond Pont Tywly Llandyssul, near the railway line and the Afon Tyweli. They were amongst the happiest times of my early life. No running water, no electricity. Washing on the roadside a little beyond, also fetching water from there for drinking and so forth. Oil lamp during the hours of darkness, and candlelight for upstairs. Grandmothers home baked bread and basins of cawl.Fetching milk in a small churn from the "Wilkes Head" tavern, and products for the home sometimes from the Co Op near the Mart, and where the Steam Train stopped. Taking the heavy Glass batteries to be charged up for working the wireless at a location at the side of the Afon Teify. For a short period I went to School up the hill on the way to what today is called The Beeches Estate. How wonderful it was to ride through Llandyssul and stay with my Aunt in Pont Tyweli, on my great horse Dandi in 1971, recalling amazing memories of the earlier days of my life. I had ridden from South Hertfordshire to St Dogmaels, and back again that year. I have still retained my Welsh language, although I have resided in London for most of my long life.

My wife and I have lived nr LLandysul since 1985 and use LLandysul a lot. We wouldn't want to live any where else, the park is beautiful this time of year as is the river walk from the bridge. Every body is friendly and we've always felt at home here.

- I grew up on the Beeches estate and wouldnt have changed my upbringing there for the world. There were and probably are some right characters up there, and sooner or later everyone ends up knowing everyone else. There were some less than desirable people/inccidents there, but a strong sense of community.

Hi, my family and I want to move to a house in Llandysul. We want to learn Welsh and have the kids in the local school and are keen to fit in but my (Welsh) sister in law tells me that being English means we may not be welcome. I can't believe this is the case but would love some local advice on how to overcome any anti-English feeling - if you think there is any!

I spent 15 years growing up in Pren-Gwyn, just outside of Llandysul. A fantastically beautiful location. I have fond memories of my times at the primary and grammar school. I know some of my old school friends still live in the village, a certain Dyfed Thomas who I think now runs the old VG Stores. In scouts we used to use the Teifi for canoeing practice, but stayed well clear of the rapids...best left to the Army who used to visit every year. Oh and Tysul Hall, the great disco haven (back in the 80's).

As an old Llandysulian of 50+ years ago, I was delighted to find the village on the web map. Keep up the good work so that we exiles can be kept in touch with what we still regard as "home".
