Radnorshire Museum has been housed in this purpose-built Carnegie Library in Llandrindod Wells since 1929. As a result of the re-development, the building has been extended to include much needed storage space, a new gallery and research room. The work was funded by the Juliette Paterson bequest, Powys County Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The museum has improved so much since the 50s and 60s where the only things on offer upstairs were the dreaded 'log boat', some stuffed owls, and the creepy doll collection assembled by Mrs Patterson (a Frenchwoman, incidentally, whose husband built a number of white Mediterranean style houses in the town, the last of which was in Broadway). The museum still needs to have much more about the history of the spa and the late-Victorian and Edwardian tourism which determined the lay-out and singular architecture of the town.

I would have liked to have seen some more interesting and inspiring pictures from the museum..... Pictures of a set of drawers aren't exactly my idea of the kind of artifacts I would want to see during a visit to the museum.

What happened to the large doll and stuffed birds collection?I liked the museum better before the change over! It was a much better collection in the 1960' s and 1970's a larger range of artefacts...

I wish they had this sort of thing when I was geologizing in Wales... could do with more fossil specimens, though, especially of didymograptids! I can't believe how much I missed when I was researching my little book.
