Judith Michie nee Kinsey
My second cousin Stephen Kinsey and his wife Allison have researched the family tree and that John, Mary,Anne, Evan and Stephen were all born in Llanbister? Are there Kinseys still in Llanbister? Is it a rural area? How would they probably earn their living? My father was Frank,( 1912 - 2002) son of John Kinsey (1869 - 1957) Thank you for any information you could kindly provide.

I remember Ron Edwards at the "Pink Cafe". A tiny kitchen with Ron and his sister making basic meals - something on toast. Both of them would be in the kitchen with a fag hanging from the corner of heir mouths and never an enviromental officer in sight, if their was sucj a body thing in those care free days.In the hall way was piles of newspapers which extended up the stairs, perhaps further but we couldn't see that far. My abiding memory was a cake stand of cakes fropm which I was allowed to choose one or if I was lucky two cakes.Ron had worked in a bank in Rhayadeer at one ! time and had lodged with the Rowland sisters at Cadwgan House. Every Saturday night he would catch the last bus from Llandrindod to Rhayader and whilst the bus was turning at the bottom of Station Road he would go and see them. In those days I was going out with a girl from Llandrindod and catching the same bus back to Rhayader as Ron and without fail he would bring a cake or a bar of chocolate for me. Llandrindod girls in those days used to sap your energy and Ron was aware of this.Happy memories!!

In the 50's I would go shopping with my Mother in Llandrindod. We would go to the Star shop in Middleton Street where the brown sugar was weighed and served in paper bags. I would watch as Mum ordered her currants saltanas and rice, all weighed and served in the paper bags.Next we would go to Morgan Morris' where we would have cream cakes to take home for tea. A cup of tea and a cake before we caught Knills bus back home would be had in the Pink and Green cafe in Middleton Street. A plate of cakes would be brought to our table and I could chose one cake. A visit to Miss Hurst in her Chemist Shop in Temple Street, fruit from Mr Giles next door and a comic for me from the newsagents shop the other side of the Chemist Shop. A special shop for me was Selwyns Newsagents, where at the age of eight years, I bought my first packet of foreign stamps and a album to display them. That was fifty five years ago and I still collect stamps. I have lots of happy memories of the town.

My sister-in -law's husband is related to the family of Thomas Thomas-Moore, Old Hall, Llanfihangel Rhydithon. I have traced the family back to the early 1800's. I am very willing to pass-on this information to any one interested.

My Great Great Uncle was Thomas Thomas-Moore. My paternal Grandfather married Emily May Thomas-Moore who was her brother and I know she was a regular visitor to Old Hall where Gertrude, her sister, lived much of the time. I believe William and Mary Ann Thomas-Moore were his parents. I am a bit hazy about this side of my family but I did visit Old Hall a couple of years ago and it looks exactly the same now as it did in the photograph I have of it taken with Thomas at the front door. I understand from the present vicar that he was a benefactor of the local school and did a number of charitable works.
