My Welch ancestor from Llanddewi Brefi is Robert Daniell, B. 1646. He came to America (South Carolina) and became Governor of North and South Carolina. The entire family is VERY proud of him! We would like to visit his "home town" the next time we come to Wales!

I moved here with my boyfriend Mark 20 years ago. Since then we have married and had 3 children, Becky,Chloe and Tom; who are now all fluent in welsh. Being english we thought that we might have hit a few "brick walls" but from the day we moved here we were accepted by the whole community. We have moved within the village 3 times and have now settled in Heol-y-gorwydd. There is not a day that goes by when I don't receive a hello from someone. (there's not many places that you can say that) The only downside of the village is the imminent closure of the post office. Considering the majority of the community is elderly I feel that this will have a devastating effect on their lives.

I moved from the Midlands to Llanddewi Brefi with my Wife, Sharon & two children, Wayne & Emily in 2005. Llanddewi Brefi is a beautifull, peaceful place to live. The people here are very friendly and offer us so much encouragement to get involved with the community. I work as a long distance truck driver for Charles Footman, Carmarthen and we feel very accepted as part of this community.

Really interesting to read Sonya Arber's comments about her grandparents owning the Graig. My 3x great uncle, Rees Jones, also used to live at the Graig until his death around 1957. I think he or family had lived there for at least 70 years.

My great granfather John Henry Jones lived at Pistyl Gywn farm before coming to Newark, Ohio USA IN 1842. He married Jane Hughes and had 7 children. Can anyone tell me about the farm and life there in the 1840's? Also any details as to how the people came to the USA?

Elizabeth Shirley maiden name Jenkins from Glouces
My father was Jenkin Stanley Jenkins who lived in Abergele but his father John Jenkins originated from Llanddewi. In 1901 he was 4 and lived with his parents Jenkin and Elizabeth Jenkins at Rysgog farm. My grandfather John moved to Abergele and married my grandmother Anne Parry. My father kept his contacts with Llanddewi, all his life but through circumstances I was not in contact with my father for some time. I am trying to trace any body who could help me find any relatives, I know my father's cousin was called Emlyn Jones.

When a student at Lampeter (1976-79) I lived at Pystyll Gwyn & frequented the Foellact (sorry for the spelling). I cried when I had to leave & have always had a profound affection for the place and the people. A magical place and time.

I have traced my family back to Charles Jones who was born around 1810 in Llanddewi Brefi. His farm was Crig and he was still farming in 1881. His son John Jones and my great great grandfather, also born in Llanddewi Brefi farmed at Blaenant and was still lived in by Rachel, his wife and Hannah and Margaret, their daughters, until at least 1901. Margaret was a dressmaker. If anyone can help me find out more about my family please contact me.

To Andrew,I wonder if the farm you mentioned was Gogoyan and the cottage Felin Goyan at the side of the old mill. We still milk and visitors still come to the farm to fish and stay on the caravan site.

I currently live in London, but my mums side of the family originate from the Tregaron/Llangethio/Llanddewi area. Every single school holiday we go to see the family and I absolutely adore it. From its fantastic mountainious views (Mamgu knows every single country lane and where it leads to so it is different everytime to its friendly people. I L.O.V.E every single blade of grass. I'm a true Cardi and want to live on a farm and own millions of sheep.

Andrew Heyes, Clatyton, Bradford.
My late father was born in Criccieth and in the 1970s he decided that we should take on a new hobby. Fishing! As part of all this new found adventure we came to your lovely vilage from Bradford in West Yorkshire. We stayed on a farm which was reached by a very long single farm track. The farm had a cottage at the side of it where we stayed. Every morning we would have breakfast cereals with milk straight from the cows. I remember it so well and it was fantastic and the milk was so fresh, it was warm! We would set off to the coast driving through Lampeter where we would enjoy the local home made ice cream, gorgeous beyond belief! I wonder is it still made there? We usually went to Aberaeron where we once left our dog on the beach on our return back to our lovely farm! It was fab.We went back for Lizzie and fortunately she was still sat on the beach. I trained her so well to say I was only five when I got her! When we got back my dad would go down through the fields to the river and fish for a couple of hours before our tea. I cannot remember the name of the farm, but I wondered if it was still there and if people still stayed there for a fantastic holiday nowadays like we did from 1975 every summer, until 1980. I would really love to know about the place.

I moved to LLanddewi Brefi, 14 years ago, very happy here, quiet and serene. A lady called Jano Davies was the first one to make friends with me. I have very fond memories of Jano. She made me laugh, told me some wonderful stories about her life, but sadly she passed away and I miss her very much. There are quite a few Welsh people in the village I get on with, happy and friendly.

Beryl Davies, Llanddewi Brefi

I enjoy reading your comments. However, many of you, I am sure, do not realise that most of the older Welsh people living in Llanddewi do not have access to the internet. As I mention in my pen portrait,''living here is like stepping back twenty years in time!'' This of course affects the feed back. As for myself, I have been very fortunate in that my sons have taught me how to use the computer, and that they did not allow me to say that I could never become computer literate and use the internet.

My ancestors stem from Llanddewi Brefi and I am having the hardest time tracking them down. I stem from a William Williams born c1816 in Llanddewi Brefi, who later moved to Dowlais in Glamorganshire to work in the mines. He married a Mary Griffiths from Llangeitho (she was born c1821). Please contact me for or with further deatails on this family.

I have very happy memories of Llanddewi with my whole family in the 70s when my Dad Moelwyn Merchant was vicar there. Feeling nostalgic and slightly emotional today, St David's Day, having got a wonderful bunch of Spring flowers from my daughter, as usual to celebrate today! I hope all in Llandewi, especially Arwyn and Betty, are happy today!

I have recently moved here from london. I love leaving my car unlocked when I go to the shop, I love the friendly hosts at the 'Foilacht' pub (tried to get the spelling right?) and the generally relaxed air of the place. On the Solstice I tried to visit the old Yew tree in the churchyard, but the gate was locked.

In my opinion Llanddewi is a lovely place to live as it can be a nice peaceful place. Most of the people get on well and generally tend to gel together if there is something that needs to be solved.
