Rather late in life I completed a first degree in Lampeter; then I was persuaded by a friend to sign up for a Cultural Landscape course with the Lampeter Archaeology Department.
I was totally overwhelmed by the subject, and turned my attention to my own local landscape - and so started to develop a serious study of Family History using the facilities coming into being on the Web - now I teach two short courses locally (Family History and House/Local History in Lampeter and some similar courses are planned for Llangybi).
I also teach some beginners classes in basic computer skills, and am involved with Student and Dyslexic etc support in the university.
I am sure I will enjoy being one of the Community Reporter team - I love meeting people, and I love the area.
My spoken Welsh is not fluent, but I am a member of Llangybi Merched y Wawr, and Hanes Llambed. I also attend a local chapel, and occasionally play the organ for them, and have an interest in the history and Church/Chapel history of the area.
I am on the committee of Neuadd Goffa, Llangybi. I was an enumerator in the
2001 census - it was a wonderful way to learn the way around the back roads and lanes of Ceredigion.
My personal interests include designing webpages for local communities; researching local history and especially field names; transcription and recording of local war memorials and rolls of honour; and occasionally I give talks to local clubs.
I hope to speak to Hanes Llambed (the Lampeter Local History Society) next month (March) about a Betws Bledrws family in the 19th century; one family member was an early emigrant to Ohio and his mother was deeply involved in the early non-conformism of our area."
