"The Knighton Town Forum was formed with voluntary representatives of organisations in the town who could then apply for grant funding which is unavailable to councils.
To date the Forum has achieved many projects to improve Knighton town. In 1997 the refurbishment of Brookside Square followed by the refurbishment of High Street with grant funding in excess of a quarter of a million pounds.
The next project was the Business Enterprise Park which was made successful by working with the Welsh Development Agency.
The Kinsley wood Picnic site which involved some £5,000.00 grant funding together with outstanding support from the Forestry Commission and local children planting tree's is an added feature for the town.
The Forum organised the only land bound celebration for the anniversary of Lord Nelson's victory with Naval guns from Portsmouth and the Ghurkhas forming a guard of honour for the Lord Lieutenant who unveiled a Welsh slate plaque naming Lord Nelson Square in Knighton.
Much of the timber for his fleet came from West Radnorshire and he stayed in Ludlow so there was the possibility that he came through Knighton, thus the name Nelson Square at the top of the town.
A Number of people have questioned his passing through Knighton but Forum Chairman Roger Bright's answer is -prove that he did not.
The Summer of 2007 saw the anniversary of the crowning of King Offa 1250 years ago, this prompted the Forum to organise a celebration, the only one in the U.K.
Knighton being ideally suited having the Offa's Dyke park and tourist centre and being the only town built on the Offa's Dyke. Mayors from towns all along the Offa's Dyke national path attended the very successful celebrations.
The Forum are at present working on improving the Offa's Dyke park area also tidying and making safe the old tennis courts, both projects involve several thousand pounds of grant funding together with a lot of work by the small committee of volunteer's who do not even get travelling allowance.
