KEVIN KELL 1949-2005
"The display in these windows attempts to give a flavour of Kevin's life and interests. It ranges from his map of Kinsley Hill (c.1958), his BSc degree from Liverpool University, and his time teaching in the Bahamas ... to his later life as the backbone of many local organisations and as a newspaper correspondent.
His interests covered a wide spectrum. From photography (a large collection of his cameras is destined for the proposed Knighton Museum and Gallery), natural history and the environment to The Heart of Wales line, writing, politics and social matters, the Church, the spiritual, and Fortean matters (strange phenomenon, including the possible existence of UFOs).
His commitment to the community cannot be questioned, but he was also aware of wider issues at both national and international levels. His scrapbooks, numbering over a hundred and sixty, give a broad picture of life over the last fifty years.
His photographic archive includes thousands of pictures he took himself, giving his view of the world and the changes he saw taking place about him. His journalistic writing recorded life as it was; his creative writing may yet be found to propose a world beyond that which we know.
You may wish to record your own reminiscences of Kevin in writing. These may be left in the box in the Antiques Centre."

Kevin Kell was my great uncle. On a recent visit back to Knighton with my mother, Veronica Parker, we were struck with how well thought of Kevin was in the town. It was lovely to see his tree at the back of the community centre. Everyone made us feel so welcome. Thankyou!

Kevin Kell was probably one of the most hard working community minded person I ever knew. He was committed in making Knighton a better place and he achieved this. He was always involved in making a lot of young people happy, youth club, discos at the community centre and much much more. He was an extremely intelligent man and had a passion for nature and wildlife in which he made a lot of contributions. Knighton will never be the same town without his help and contribution to the town. He will be sadly missed.
