I'd have to disagree with Mark about everything...and the Waffles are ok but not a patch on the genuine, humble Welsh people.

If you like a good meal then the St Govans Inn south of Pembroke is fantastic. Big meals for a very reasonable price and it's a proper old local. If you have a sweet toothe then the Honey shop in Tywyn does the Greatest Honey Ice-cream!

Llanfaes dairy has great Ice cream and I have always been a fan. I took 7 friends to the parlour recently and we ordered our sundaes and coffees in total we spent £35. My brother in law purchased a cone at the take out bar and came and sat down at our table and was asked to leave because that it was against they're policy. A lesson in tact is required

Try Blaencamel Farm for your vegetables. We really enjoyed the friendly welcome and were delighted with the quality of the produce. Cheap and organic! It makes a change from shopping in the supermarkets when we visit. We are going to visit West Wales more often!
    Thu May 3 09:17:01 2007

    Brian from Aberystwyth
I have to agree with Tim from Aberaeron below, the Welsh Red Mustard is the best I have ever tried, it has a nice sweet taste and wonderful fiery kick. I had some in Lord Beechings with my steak and they told me that all of the Brain's pubs in Wales serve it! I also managed to get a jar of it from Morgan's butchers on the high street. If you like mustard you will love the welsh red mustard, I'd recommend it to anyone.
    Mon Apr 23 14:55:17 2007

The new butcher in Gabowen (nr oswestry) has the best sausage I've ever tasted. I tried them first at Stans super store st. martins, then visted his shopto buy them direct. Beatiful, and that's just the butcher.

I've just eaten a couple of pies produced by the Grosvenor Bakery in Llandrindod Wells. One steak and ale and one lamb and leek. Yes I'm a pig but if you had tasted them you'd have stuffed your face as well. Quite simply the best manufactured pies I have ever had - filled with meat and gravy, ace pastry and packed with care. I shall be filling the freezer!

Fresh fruit is the best food. It's good for you and is healthy.
    Wed Aug 16 14:03:10 2006

    Myfanwy from Llanfair Caereinion
Rikki Lloyd is not just the best butcher in Welshpool (he sells genuine local produce not stuff moved around after dark in unmarked lorries) but I defy anyone to find a better butcher anywhere. The level of respect given to both the meat and the customers is unparallelled and the service is excellent. In fact, the banter in Rikkis would have the most hardened veggie reaching for a lamb chop. The pork pies are so good that they tempted a friend back to pork pies heaven after a twenty year famine and I just ask out of interest whether Rikki is officially Britain's most handsome butcher? BBC Mid Wales, please find out and tell the waiting world!
    Wed Jun 28 09:19:38 2006

    Helen from Worcs
The Great Oak cafe in Llanidloes is the most wonderful vegetarian cafe I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Everything is home cooked and the coffee fantastic.

In answer to Sian from Llanelli, wanting to know about the Tudor Lamp - well, we don't have a Bell Inn in Llangrannog, just the Ship and the Pentre for many a long year. But I see there's another message posted about the Bell at Llanyre - could that be the one with the lamp?
    Fri Feb 10 21:48:07 2006

    Sian, Llanelli
Has anyone heard of Tudor's lamp which is supposed to be in the Bell inn, Llangrannog. This is an old story but I can't find any reference to it. Could anyone help, it makes interesting conversation while eating out and as the lamp belonged to a relative of mine I would like to visit the Bell inn if it's still there.

If you have not been to the Carlton House in Llanwrtyd Wells you are missing out on the expereince of a lifetime. Its like dinning with your close friends, the service is wonderful, the wine is fantastic, the surroundings are very comfortable and the food... their is not a word that could give justice to what Mary Ann Gilchrist and Paul Roberts do. Thank you so much.

I have to go with Sian. Every time we pop back we have to stock up on the waffles. There's none anywhere else that come even close.

    Haydn Davies from Llanbadarn Fynydd
Llanbadarn Fynydd sells a lot of home made cakes from flapjacks and welsh cakes to cream sponges and fruit cakes. They are the best because they are home made. They need to be tasted to know what I mean.

The ice cream in Caffi'r Patio, Llangrannog, is out of this world. It's really home-made with superb flavours like trifle and amaretto. And the fruity ice-creams like mango or strawberry have real chunks of fruit.
    Sun Feb 1 16:07:44 2004

    Sian from Aberystwyth
Tregroes Waffles: A visit to Aberystwyth fair is not complete without eating a few of these waffles. They are simply delicious...
