Yes, I come from the Powell line over there, and was Hywel, Powel, Ap Howell, finally Powell, somewhere down the line. Castle Madoc is my interest. Have't been there yet, but would love to go to Wales and the UK and explore the Castles.

My favourite Welsh Castle has to be Dolforwyn,Powys.I love the location and the story of how the builder, when told by Edward I not to build the castle,in an act of defiance, replied that he did not need Edward's permission,to build a castle on his own lands. As soon as it was built the English besieged it and confiscated it.

It has to be Castell y Bere near the Talyllyn Railway. The silence and sense of spirit is amazing amongst the magic and grandeur of cadair Idris country. There is nowhere else like it. I lived there once and it is mine!

It's got to be Carreg Cennen just for the stunning 360 degree views from the castle. One of my favourite places on earth!

Castell y Bere, not far from Tywyn ... we used to tell joke with our children when they were very, very young that this was "Merlin's Castle" -- believable perhaps due to its current condition, implying an ancient and venerable history. Even now that our children know better (heavens! soon they will no longer be teenagers!), we all still refer to it as Merlin's, and make a point of visiting every time we return to Wales.

My fave castle is Aberystwyth castle because its rite next to the park so when me and my mates go to town and we get bored of the park we can just go climbing in the castle and around it....ABER CASTLE RULES!!!!!!!!!!!

As a person who as a penchant for castles, I honestly couldn't pick one over another, but I suppose if pushed for the Mid Wales area I would say the ruins at Montgomery may just shade it as my choice. When ever I go to visit the castle I try to imagine what it must have looked like, and what a great view the people who lived in it must have had of the surrounding countryside. But as I said I love all the castles in Wales.

Carl from Aberystwyth
As I'm originally from the Welshpool area, my favourite has to be Powis Castle. It looks imposing and majestic and sits overlooking Welshpool from its hilltop site just outside the town centre. It has a fascinating history and links with Henry VIII and Clive of India, in fact some of the trasures he brought back from the sub-Continent are still housed there in a museum. Powis Castle is perhaps best known for its picturesque gardens and I'm told they're worth a visit.
