Anna Page from Powys County Archives:
"The photograph was given to us by the son of the lady on the right of the picture. She is Miss Dora May Gwynne, and he thinks that the photo was taken in 1930/31, soon after she graduated from Swansea Training College. She was acting headmistress at Llandefalle for a while.
She went on to teach in Brynmawr (her home town), Crickhowell and Clydach - where she became headmistress of the Infants School.
We would love to hear from anyone who recognises themselves or anyone else in the photo. We feel sure that there are still people alive who were in the school in the early 1930s.
It is interesting to see how many children there are, given that Llandefalle is such a small place; the parish does cover a large area, however."
Neville Meirion Jones is a former pupil at Llandefalle School:
"I was a resident of the parish of Llandefalle from 1953 until 1967 and attended Llandefalle School from 1958 until 1965.
My mother (Gwenllian Evans) was born at Blaencwm in the parish in 1930 so would not have featured in the picture but it is likely that her sister (Verona Evans) and stepbrother (John Davies) would have done so. Sadly my mother is now dead but her sister is 81 and still living just outside the parish at Talgarth.
My own time at Llandefalle school was very happy, having been transported by minbus from my home (Shopfach)some 5 or 6 miles by road ( or less than two if walked over the mountainside. My first teacher was Florence Herring and D J H Lewis was Headmaster (don't think I ever knew what the D J H ever stood for!!)
I have a class picture of the school in about 1960 and again when Miss Herring retired in probably 1961. By this time, numbers had dropped to around 30 or so for the entire school.
I left Llandefalle to go to Brecon Boys Grammar School in 1965 and left the area in 1967 when my mother (who had been widowed in 1964) remarried and we moved to Berkshire. My grandparents continued to live in the parish until their deaths in 1974 and 1977 and my family and I still regularly visit the parish as my father, grandparents and 2 uncles are buried in Llandefalle graveyard."
Do you recognise anyone in the photo? Can you tell us more about Llandefalle School? Send your comments to wales.mid@bbc.co.uk.
