Ceredigion Mines Slideshow

The landscape of North Ceredigion is dotted with the remains of the county's former metal mining industry. Take our photo tour around some of the old works which can still be seen in the area today. These images have been published with the kind permission of the Welsh Mines Preservation Trust. If you'd like to add a picture, please email it in jpeg format to wales.mid@bbc.co.uk.

For reading material try 'The Old Metal Mines of Mid Wales' by David Bick. Very informative reading from an author who has studies these mines for over 50 years.

The Above picture is of a water wheel at the Llywernog Silver Lead Mine Museum. If you would like to help us to restore it, or help to dig out the mine workings, contact us at the mine!

There is a wonderful Museum of Lead Mining at Llywernog, near Bwlch Nantyrarian, east of Aberystwyth. Lots to look at and you can safely go on an underground tour into the tunnels. Loads of exhibitions to look at. Panning for minerals is fun too. Well worth a visit. They have a website: www.silverminetours.co.uk
