To Dawn Newman from Cardiff.I think the book that you are looking for could be Betws Mas o'r Byd (Bettws beyond the world) which refers to a different Betws(with 1 T) near Ammanford

My family moved to Bettws around 1940. I remember the old village hall vividly. Do you have names for any of the ladies in the picture?

Hello Bernard, I live in your old house, I am glad you think it looks marvellous! I think you came and visited us some years ago and we took you up to see the room you were born in, have I got the right person?

Bernard, just to say thankyou for explaining that to me - I now know where it was and really I think I should actually have been able to work it out for myself it seems so simple now. Many thanks.

Hannah Farrington from Bettws. I can only describe the situation of the village hall as follows - with your back to the New Inn walk over the bridge and you will come to a road junction, Newtown to your left and Ael-y-Bryn?? straight on. The hall stood on the high ground in the 'crook' of the junction and on the south side of it. It faced towards the village and the farmhouse at Bettws Hall could be seen clearly as indicated in thephoto showing my mother and other village ladies. Incidentally, it was obviously her turn to make the tea that day hence the apron she is wearing. The gate to the school field was opposite the hall and if you look carefully at the photo of me with my mother on the school field you can just make out the gate and the hall beyond it in the top left hand corner of the photo. I believe that a house now stands on the same site as the hall. Whether the view we had then has changed I don't know but I'll see for myself when I visit Bettws in June. I have a full frontal photo of the hall as it was and would be glad to send you a copy if you require it. Please contact me through BBC Mid Wales. Good luck with your A level project.

I currently live in Bettws and am doing a project on the village for my A level welsh coursework. Could someone please tell me whereabouts this picture of the old village hall is taken from now, as I can't place it and would like to take a photo of the same area now. Thankyou.

Rachael Jones - Thanks for your message. I should very much like to hear more about your research at Gregynog. Is it in print? No doubt you have read Dorothy Harrop's (?spelling)history of Gregynog? Friends have recently sent me a photo of our old house in Bettws. It has had a 'makeover' and looks marvellous! Thanks again.

Bernard,I have recently finished a lengthy piece of research on the Gregynog Estate in the neighbouring parish of Tregynon. Bettws featured a lot in the research, for example the school was designed by the Gregynog land agent, and the vicar of Tregynon fell off his horse and sustained an injury on the road to Bettws. I have really enjoyed looking at your photographs of the village.
