Frequently Asked Questions

Last updated: 28 April 2008

Below is a list of some of the most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) we receive about the site and about your contributions. If the question you have is not answered here, click here to get in touch.

About this site

Q. What's this website all about?
A. This website is about Mid Wales. The place, its people, local news, views and lots, lots more! We want to ensure that this website is as representative as possible and welcome contributions and feedback.
Q. Who looks after this website?
A. The local BBC website for Mid Wales is run by a dedicated team of three staff - who are also local people - based at the BBC studios on the University campus in Aberystwyth.
Q. How can I contact this team?
A. You can contact us by using the Your Say pop-up form or by sending an email to: wales.mid@bbc.co.uk. Wherever possible we prefer material via email, though you can also get in touch at our postal address: Mid Wales Website Team, Parry Williams Building, Penglais Campus, Aberystwyth, SY23 3AJ.

About your contributions

Q. How do I contribute?
A. It's easy! There are many different ways you can contribute to the website. Find out more about how to contribute...
Q. I've sent you a contribution, why hasn't it been published?
A. We receive a huge number of contributions so please bear with us if it takes us a while to process them. We aim to deal with most submissions within three working days but there are some exceptions.

Although all contributions are read it isn't possible to publish them all. Some may be published at a later date, but others may be rejected for reasons of taste, decency and the law. Please read our house rules or see the BBC Guidelines for more information.

See the links below for more on specific types of content which may help to make sure your contribution gets published on this site.

Q. Why do you ask for my email address or phone number on various pages?
A. Your details are covered by our privacy policy and will be used solely for the purposes of dealing with your submission. For example, we may have a query about a Talking Point, a band profile or a recommendation you've made to the Food & Drink section.

We also need an email address to tell you if you've won a competition. In this instance, contact phone numbers are also useful when prizes of tickets have to be awarded at short notice.

Never reveal any personal information about yourself (e.g. your telephone number, postal address or email address) except where requested by the website team for verification purposes.

Q. Who owns anything I decide to submit?
A. Sending your contribution to bbc.co.uk means that you agree to our Terms and Conditions and grant the BBC a non-exclusive licence to distribute and edit the material you submit in any way and in all media. You still own the copyright to everything you contribute and you are free to re-publish it elsewhere.
Q. Do you have any tips on writing for this website?
A. Yes. Use British English spelling - not American English! Make sure you're writing in the right tense. Don't use long strings of CAPITALS - this is considered 'shouting' on the internet.
Q. What format do I send digital/scanned photos to you?
A. All photos should be sent as a JPEG file if possible (.jpg, .jpe, .jpeg). We have more information on how to send us your photos or get in touch if you're unsure how to do this.
Q. What about language? Can I submit content to you in Welsh?
A. Gallwch! Yes! Welsh language content will be passed to our sister website Lleol i Mi - Canolbarth which can be found on our Welsh language service Cymru'r Byd. It can be included here if it is accompanied by an English translation for the convenience of other users.
