Sheila Morgan

Sheila Morgan Age: Over 21!
Family Status: Married with 4 grown-up children
Area: Aberystwyth
Occupation: Retired nurse
Weight Loss: 28lbs

Best advice: Join a group which has a real mixture of people. The group I joined wasn't a diet group - it was a lifestyle group which made it more positive.

I wanted to take more exercise to feel more fit, but couldn't as my heart rate was too high and I felt ill. I realised that I had to do something structured to organise myself.

I joined a group in Aberystwyth University Sports Centre. They encouraged me to look at the foods I was eating and to see what they contained. They explained why we eat more of certain foods and I enjoyed understanding the psychological aspects of diet.

After about 3 months, I felt more energetic and lost a steady two pounds a week. Two aspects of the diet were important for me .The tutor said that red fruits and drinks were more fulfilling and I started to work on this and it helped me to succeed.

The other thing was seeing a chocolate bar and realising the amount of calories it contained. Suddenly the work it takes to get weight off really hit home!

I'm being careful now and still exercising regularly. I feel so much better and have lots more energy. I'm looking to lose more weight by doing it steadily and properly.

You are an inspiration to someone like me who needs to lose weight. I need to lose 3 and a half stone. Could do with some tips. The family don't understand

I was fifteen and a half stone about ten years ago and lost my weight when I attended a WelshSlim club in Swansea with a friend. The plan wasn't faddy or difficult - it was just based on healthy eating principles and calorie counting with generous calories. Exercise was also encouraged for weight loss and maintenance. I was very rarely hungry and could incorporate things like eating out and a social life. Losing six and a half stone completely changed my life! I was no longer this shy young girl but a confident young woman. About nine years ago I became a consultant for WelshSlim which I believe has helped me to keep my weight off all this time, and all I have learned over the years will help me to stay trim for the rest of my life!
