Annette's fitness regime

Annette Strauch

Last updated: 20 May 2009

Annette Strauch from Machynlleth shared her thoughts about why and how she stays fit, including her passion for Nordic walking, in May 2009:

  • Mmore about health and fitness in Mid Wales

  • "I live in mid-Wales. I think that fitness is fun. I feel better, I love it! I also like the summers, wearing light dresses. If I am too big, I cannot do this.

The lighter I feel, the happier I am personally. I have a pair of jeans. As long as I can fit into them I am alright! My fitness advice is to eat healthily without too many calories.

Tiny portions - eating slowly, never or seldom in front of the TV. I still eat chocolates and drink red wines - but maybe once a week or just a little bit every now and again.

I love drinking water, juices mixed with water, herbal teas - no squash or coke, good bread, lots of fruit and salads, milk and buttermilk.

In order to shed my pounds I cycle or do Nordic Walking! The poles help to propel me along - I work hard. Doing my Nordic Walking I burn up to 46% more calories than through ordinary walking.

I have a nice bath with lovely scents instead of eating sweets. It scares me getting older and bigger because of the health risks connected to obesity. Wales has such a beautiful scenery. It is easy to go out, enjoy it - and keep fit at the same time."
