Black History Month Fest

Click through our slideshow of photos from the first ever Black History Month festival to be staged in Powys. A series of events - including story-telling workshops and live music sessions - were held at Baskerville Hall in Clyro near Hay-on Wye on Thursday 30 September 2004. Held every October, Black History Month aims to promote knowledge and awareness of black history and culture. If you've got a photo from the day, send it to wales.mid@bbc.co.uk.

Balraj it seem quite clear you don't understand the term cultural heritage. For the Welsh economy inheritance was gained through the slave. Should our children not know this. Industry in Wales was financed by sugar and the exploited labour of the Africans. Iron, textiles, slate, Ship building all came about because of the inheritance you clearly feel is from the distant past.

Why not teach British children about their own cultural heritage first, such as the Mabinogion ?

We never had such experiences when I was in Lland'od Grammar or Ffynnon Gynydd either! The nearest we got to black history was reading Brer Rabbit!! Keep up the good work.
