1st August
Went to Penrallt Ceiber and bought 8 cabbage plants which hopefully will be ready next January/February, I dumped the leggy plants that I grew, I have planted another 20 cells of All the Year Round cauliflowers, which I hope will come in the early spring. Also planted 20 cells of Durham Early spring cabbage. Planted out a row of leeks where the cauliflowers had been.
I planted all the winter and spring greens (Purple Sprouting, Brussel Sprouts, Spring Cauliflowers, January King cabbage) on the 25th May this year, must delay the sowing until the last week of June next year, then hopefully I should have ground to plant them on to.
10th August
Planted out another row of leeks and a row of Early Nantes 2 carrots, hopefully they will be ready to eat at about Christmas.
22nd August
Planted out a row (6 plants of Cabbages, Durham Early) and two rows of cauliflowers (12 plants All the Year Round) from where the potatoes were.
Pulled up the sweetcorn from the tunnel, not a good crop this year.
25th August

The tomatoes have been good this year, I picked over 10lbs today. The last few weeks have been very autumnal with the weather very blustery and wet with a drop in temperature. The runner beans have gone very coarse.
Sown a small tray of "Spicy Salad Mixture" which I did last year, this is a mixture of Spinach, Lettuce Redina, Mizuna, Pak Choi and Red Mustard. Last year the Mizuma and Pak Choi did very well but did not come into its own until the early spring, also sown a few cells of Olive Leaf Wild Rocket.

I see you mention cauliflower! Demented we have tried to cope with cauliflower. Rabbits have eaten their fill. We put wire over them. Then they turned a darkish yellow and got black bits on them and were altogether very unappetising looking! I wonder how the farmers grow fields of the bright white heads with apparently no difficulty...I wonder if the difference is that we use no insecticides fungicides etc?

Where is a good place to buy all these seeds that can be planted all year round.

Yes I agree, great site. Diana, you can get your seed taytoes at that nice nursery over at Lelant, just after Christmas also in Penzance B and Q.

How sensible. A good easy to follow diary for growing vegetables from which I have picked up some good ideas. Spuds for Christmas, now there's a good thought but where to get the tubers!
