Fantastic Flora

Last updated: 17 December 2007

A new conservation project that aims to conserve the native plants of Powys in gardens throughout the county has been launched in Builth Wells by Dr. Elisabeth A. Harris. In December 2007 Elisabeth A. Harris sent us these photos and described the project:

Elisabeth: Nationally it is not only the rare plants that are suffering. Plantlife's Common Plants Survey has shown that out of 65 common species 24 are showing statistically significant declines, including many favourites such as foxglove, teasel, harebell, yellow iris, and tufted vetch.

Well done Elisabeth, a wonderful idea, good luck with it. Thank you for these wonderful photographs too, they are brilliant.

Frightening statistics on the near- disappearance of flora such as the fox-glove. Good pictures, however.
