Last updated: 03 July 2008
In April 2008 Mike Barrell sent us these photos of his family and a birthday party in Hay on Wye. Take a look to see if you remember the characters or if it was a party you attended:

Mike: Left is Jim [Dowsty] Morris and Charlie Gough. Both cousins of mine. Jim [Dowsty] Morris fought in the 2nd World War. When he returned home he went on to be one of the characters of the town. He was well known for making his own Scrumpy Cider.

Jim Morris (DOUSTY)is my grandfather and fought in the 2nd world war from the start to the end and was in the desert rats 8th army. My farther said his dad never saw him until he was about 2 years old as he was away fighting. He was awarded many medals which included The Africa star. The Africa bar. The France (& Germany star. The Italy star. The 1939-1945 star. The Dunkirk Medal. The 1939-1945 Defence Medal. And One more that looks like Defence Medal but has red ribbon with two blue lines on the outside and two white lines inside of them. Eight in total. My Father said he would never wear them and put them in the bin. Only my Gran (Birdie) got them back out of the bin and put them away.
