A few interesting facts about Meifod and the Montgomeryshire area - if you can add to our list, get in touch.
The Eisteddfod is being held on land belonging to Mathrafal Farm on the outskirts of the small village of Meifod.
Meifod is said to have been the place where the ancient Princes of Powys had their summer residence.
The fourteenth century court of Owain Glyndwr at Sycharth is only a few miles from Meifod.
There used to be three public houses in Meifod. Only one - the Kings Head - remains open.
Like most villages, Meifod has lost many of its traditional craftsmen and tradespeople like the local blacksmith, tailor, wheelwright, watchmaker and weavers.
The earliest Church in Meifod was built around 500 AD. The main body of the present Church was built around 1500 AD.
Meifod is about 8 miles north of Welshpool.
Welshpool is the main administrative centre for Montgomeryshire.
Welshpool used to be called simply Pool but the prefix Welsh was added in 1835 to avoid confusion with the seaside resort of Poole in Dorset.
Almost half the population of Welshpool was wiped out in the Great Plague. One of Wales' three national walking trails - Glyndwr's Path - goes through Meifod.
The village of Staylittle used to be called Penfforddlas but its name was changed because a local blacksmith was so quick at his work that nobody had to wait there long.
Llyn Clywedog reservoir, which was built in the 1960s, provides drinking water for consumers from Llanidloes to Bristol. At 72m, it's the highest concrete dam in the UK.
The largest town in Powys is Newtown (population 10,000) and its about 20 miles from Meifod.

It is known that the house on the corner of Meifod, before the turning for the village hall, belonged to a Mr Lloyd. He was the founder of all the Lloyd's banks. His house was a bank before he branched out all over Britain. It is now a house.

The Lloyds family were from Meifod. They went on to set up Lloyds Bank, now known as Lloyds TSB.
