Mid Wales Basketball Club

Basketball player

Last updated: 19 March 2009

From Tuesday 14 April to Friday 17 April 2009 Mid Wales Basketball Club is putting on an Easter Basketball Camp in Llanfair Caereinion. Why? Organiser, Guy Evans from Newtown, and player-coach of the Worcester Wolves in the English Basketball League told us more in March 2009:

  • More about Guy Evans...

  • The camp has been set up becaue of the ever-growing local interest in basketball, and to offer young people a fun and safe activity to participate in during the Easter break.

The camp will be run by myself, former Wales international and British Champion Guy Evans, but aims to be suitable for all abilities.

The purpose of the event is to offer an enjoyable and progressive week of basketball that will appeal to both male and female young players and hopefully give them the impetus to enjoy the game in the future.

Mid Wales Basketball Club (formerly Newtown Titans Basketball Club) regularly organises and delivers fun and dynamic basketball sessions in Welshpool, Newtown, Llanfair Caereinion, Llanfyllin, Machynlleth, Llanidloes, and more.

It is estimated that over 300 young players have participated in local basketball sessions since the club's inception in 2005.

The interest that has been shown locally by young people in an activity such as basketball is encouraging, although there is still much to be done.

Now, perhaps more than ever, we need to encourage youngsters to participate in healthy, rewarding activities and I believe our club assists in that process.

Turning up just once may be the start of a longer-term relationship with the game. Some of our older players are now actively involved in assisting with the running of sessions across the area, while we see great progress in terms of development when beginners have been offered the chance to progress at their own pace. We try to cater for everyone.

It is hoped that with time, a local youth league will be set-up to add legitimacy to what is quickly becoming a basketball movement.

For now, however, the club is focused on delivering quality coaching to those who participate at its events.

I guarantee that each and every young player will learn something and have a bit of laughter along the way.

Of course...us giving away some free Easter Eggs probably won't hurt!

The camp runs from 10.00am-2.00pm each day (10am-12pm for ages 6-11, 12pm-2pm for ages 12-18). The venue is Llanfair Caereinion Sports Centre.
