A privately-owned visitor attraction, Cardigan Island Farm Park is located on a scenic headland at Gwbert, a couple of miles from the town of Cardigan. The park overlooks the Cardigan Island nature reserve which is just 200 yards off-shore and which can be clearly viewed from the park.
The island is home to thousands of nesting sea-birds, so access is restricted. It also has a flock of wild Soay sheep, originally from the isle of Soay, south of Skye, Scotland.
The farm park offers good vantage points for local wildlife. A colony of Atlantic grey seals breed in the many caves below the park's cliffs and Cardigan Bay's bottlenose dolphins are frequent visitors to the waters surrounding the park. The best time to catch a glimpse of these marine mammals is during calm weather when they tend to swim closer to the shore.
There are a variety of farm animals at the park, including pigs, sheep, goats, rare breed cattle, ponies, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks, geese and Dilwyn the donkey. There are also llamas, rheas, emus and wallabies.
There is also an out-door adventure playground and sand-pit for children. Refreshments are sold from the farm house and there are picnic tables outside.
Tractor and trailer rides are run from near the entrance to the seal view-point every day between 12.30pm to 5.00pm, apart from Saturdays. It runs less frequently in October. There is a small extra charge for the rides.
