Bath House plan

In the spring of 2008, property development company Liberty Mercian re-submitted a planning application for a £50m scheme to redevelop the Bath House area of Cardigan. In May 2008, Emyr Williams of Liberty Mercian outlined the proposed project. In April 2009 work started on an £8.8m development of 48 flats for older people at Bath House Farm. What do you think about the overall project? Send us your comments.

I am appaled at the proposed waste of money that this project will eventually cost if it goes ahead. The area in question is neither convinient nor accessable to the general public let alone emergency vehicles...

I am a young person living in the town and happen to live very near to where the development is planned to be and at this time seems to be going ahead. In my opinion there are better things to have money spent on like sorting out the state the high street has been allowed to get into. The entrance to the development alone is a mammoth of a task, to get a acceptable gradient to get to the site, im guessing 160ft DEEP of field needs to be dug out to level it out, this is going to take a long time but to make things worse this is only feet behind houses. The area is also extremely important for w! ater drainage so lots of running water. I also believe it wont create jobs since other supermarket chains will probably cut back on staff, seems to me this is just a way for some 'caring' ceredigion coucil employees to make some easy cash. not to mention the hospital is probably going to be nothing more than a glorified health centre so no A&E unless you go to carmarthen.

This is just what was needed for the town with all the recent shops closing it shows cardigan is still going to be able to compete with other towns

In my opinion it wil do the town a world of good to have this development-if the hospital does not become another old peoples home that is!! Cardigan needs something to keep the people shopping in town but at the moment there is nothing. And with the loss of woolworths cardigan will become even worse. Where in town will we get childrens toys? where will we get CD's and DVD's? The main problem I see is the towns people being afraid of change. But change can be good and will benefit many with jobs.

Saturday, 6 December 2008 - Well, it looks as if the Bath House is going ahead after all. Those people who dripped the poison so that their own schemes could be considered; those people who put their political popularity before the needs of the community; those people who used misrepresentation to get their own way and those who thought they could continue to remain big fish in small pools have seen their efforts come to naught.

Stop fussing its childish and silly, just do it, your all arguing like children! its pathetic. its only going to do good for this town, shop are dissapearing one by one in this town, in five to ten years there wont be any shops left and everyone will be on the doll ripping away the taxes of the people that do work. the only reason it not going to go ahead is because old people are too scared for change. but if they do not act then there will be no jobs for youngsters in the future. i cant stress enough, in the long run this development will do nothing but good and i pity you people who cannot see this.

In my opinion this development will ruin the town, all for the sake of money. A petition has been held , all against the development, the councillors who were in favour of the development have all been votes off the council and in the public meeting held at the town no-one spoke in favour of the development. What other proof do Ceredigion County council need that the people of Cardigan do not want this developmen? Somebody is being made very wealthy as a result of this development and is obviously willing to sacrifice the wellbeing of the town in order to line his pocket.

The new hospital in Newton Abbot has been built on the outskirts of the town which is easily reached without any congestion to the town itself. It has been designed and built to the highest specifications for disease prevention and every bed will have a view. It is something we shall all need and be proud of especially the sensitive positioning having listened to the residents. Cardigan can learn a lot from this development...yes, there is social housing too within easy access to the supermarkets around the town. The town centre is vibrant and we have a market open all week. I consider the Bath House scheme ill advised and will be a blight on my birthplace.

This development will ruin the town forever, because of the access problems. The traffic will have to come right through the town on a one-way system. There has been a petition of over 3000 signatures recently against the development. Since the BBC website states that the town's population is around 4500, the amount of objection is obvious. We don't want it.

While I appreciate the concerns of people re the development of stores and extra traffic, we NEED a new hospital and if one isn`t built soon I can see the town losing out and the hospital being built elsewhere or not at all. Shops are closing in the town now, a new development with LOTS of parking could well save the town from becoming moribund.
