1180 Evidence of the first settlement at Builth when the Normans built a castle on a hill overlooking the present town.
1277 Edward 1 rebuilt the Norman castle
1282 Llywelyn the last Prince of Wales was killed by English soldiers at Cilmeri near Builth.
1690 A terrible fire destroyed around 40 homes in the town.
1779 A new bridge was built over the river Wye
1800 Records show the towns population had reached 700.
1860 The town became a popular spa venue for Victorian visitors and it was at this time that the word Wells was added to Builth.
1963 The Royal Welsh Agricultural Show made its permanent home at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells.
