Gardening Club
Last updated: 23 November 2007
Builth Wells and District Gardening Club has been in existance since 1970 and now has more than 90 members. In November 2007, secretary, Sally Pearson explained more about the club's activities.
More about gardening ...
"The club was founded by Margaret Evans in 1970, and she was its secretary for 35 years and latterly its president. It now has over 90 members and its objective is to help members become better gardeners.
The club has a winter programme of seven well-attended monthly lectures on varying aspects of gardening, and a number of visits in the summer to well-known gardens open to the public and fairly local ones listed in the 'Yellow Book'.
There is also an annual plant sale and coffee morning at the end of May and an annual show at the end of August which attracts almost 400 entries. The club successfully hosted a Royal Horticultural Society Regional Lecture in 2006.
Club members plant and maintain the tubs and planters which adorn the town centre and the flower bed in front of the cottage hospital. The club is also involved in running the teabar in the horticultural tent at the Royal Welsh Show for one of the four days and is represented on their Horticultural Committee.
The club has a reputation amongst speakers and show judges and non-member exhibitors as a friendly group. New members are always welcome and everybody is kept in touch by a newsletter published four times a year."

I am a horticultural lecturer, I used to own a nursery Julias garden that took the Best show exhibit at the Royal welsh and Smallholders show and obviously many many more. I also taught at the welsh college of horticulture. I now do freelance lectures for gardening clubs etc. through the winter months. I was just searching through gardening club ads and wondered if you would be interested.
