I was bullied the whole time during my education at builth high school....i am now 37 and a mature adult...however the scars of that time still stay with me. I hope that the school had improved for the sake of the children attending.

I hated Builth High School for one reason only and am ashamed to say I did all I could to staying away. The reason was that one teacher at the time [Biology teacher] made me look a fool in front of the class. I had been doodling on my book and wrote my first name the German way Frieda. This teacher who always walked with a stick called me to the front of the class and asked why I had spelled my name that way. I felt very small. Bearing in mind that this was not long after the second world war about 1946/7. It was years after that I learned that the reason Mr.......walked with a stick was because he had been a prisoner of war in a German prison camp. I was too late to apologise to him. He died soon afterwards.

I had to join the army at sixteen to get away, otherwise i would have been made to do a futile A level that i hated just to get a good grade (league tables) to get into uni to study another non subject.

I was in BHS until I left in 1988. I really enjoyed my time there and only had the benefit of the new school in the last year when it was complete. No flash computer room or anything at that time, but I would have loved to have had the facilities that they have now.Bullying - Wherever you go there are bullies. I was bullied numerous times and had absolutely no support, but hey that's life as some kids are like that for whatever reason. Teaches you to stand up for yourself. You get over it and it makes you stronger. Teachers - There are good teachers and bad teachers - it's just the ! way it is. I was indeed 'bullied' by one of them (they are long retired now). But the rest were great. Sometimes they give you a hard time, but you see it maybe for your own benefit in the end. Heck, my wife went to a top-class all-girl private school and was given absolute hell, so status and facilities has very little to do with what is deemed a 'bad school'! It's all a matter of perspective really. The bottom line is that it's a great school in a really lovely area with very few problems. They were indeed some of the best days of my life for sure and I have great memories of it. We all used to get told this and never believed it....but it's true.

People who've lived in the Builth area all their life tend to think the school is a lot better than it really is- anyone who's travelled a bit more knows that the only thing keeping this school going is the community it's in. Nobody receives the support they need, if you do manage to make it through to the end of sixth form it's only because of personal determination and once you move away you realise you were a big fish in a very small pond. Somebody needs to start being realistic about the real problems this school has, a totally fresh approach is needed. Overall the people are nice and friendly, there! aren't problems like knifes and guns, although drugs have been an issue, but the real issue is the school's board of governors is kidding itself. Sad but true.

I left Builth school the year the sports center was finished so we still used the church hall. i took part in the sponsor walk to raise money for the first computer but never got to see it ! The swimming pool was open air and was always very cold. we had some good teachers but also some bad. when you get older you realise that your school days are the best days of your life and where better than Builth to be in school .

Worst High School ever! teachers do nothing about bullying, the students run a mockery of the tutors and they have the worst priorities I have ever come across in a school. I personally would not let my children (If I had any) attend builth wells high school. Ex-student 2001-2007
