Brecknock Museum Exhibition

Museum Poster 2008

Last updated: 18 July 2008

Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Brecon Jazz with a wide-ranging exhibition and retrospective. In July 2008, curatoe of the museum, Nigel Blackamore, told us more about the museum's jazz plans:

  • More on the Brecknock Museum and Art Gallery...

  • "The exhibition will include a display of the original artwork for the distinctive jazz festival posters which the Museum holds in its collection as well as a retrospective of artwork of the past 25 years from artists such as Robert MacDonald, Huw Parsons, Peter Paul Pietch and Alan Young.

There will also be images of the jazz legends who have appeared at Brecon and a range of associated memorabilia.

The exhibition will open to the public on 19th of July and will run until the 7th of September and admission is free.

Come along to the Museum on Friday 8 August and join Tim Rossiter, the artist who created the striking 25th anniversary image, for a free 'Gothic Blues Art Workshop'.

Taking as his inspiration three great Bluesmen - Robert Johnson, Bukka White and Muddy Waters - participants will be sampling great tracks from the past on vinyl and creating a dramatic black and white community collage using ink, wax resist, scraper board and cut out.

Anyone wishing to participate in the workshop is welcome to come along to the Museum any time between 10am and 4pm.

Brecon Jazz mixes some of the world's finest jazz music with a stunning location in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Since its launch in 1984 the Festival has earned an international reputation for the unique atmosphere it creates both for its audience and the galaxy of international artists who perform there each year on the second weekend in August.

The programme for 2008 includes: Jools Holland, Cerys Matthews, Joan Armatrading, Louis Hayes, Courtney Pine, Maceo Parker and a children's concert and workshop given by Jason Rebello and friends. The HSBC Schools Outreach Programme has been run by Eddie Parker.

For further information please us ethe contact information on the websites for the museum and festival listed to the right of this page."
