When I left school at the age of sixteen I worked at the War Memorial Hospital. we lived in and it was very strict as it was run by ex. navy and army sisters. This was in 1956- 1958.I have been back to Brecon recently, visiting the hospital.I wonder if there is anybody who worked there at that time still in Brecon or reading this.

Lived in Brecon for 2 years (2003) on an army posting. As i wasn't married at the time, me and the girlfriend moved into John St for the first year and then was lucky enough to get married in the outstanding Brecon Cathedral.Outstanding place and outstsanding people. A big hello to to the Camden Arms regulars.Lokking forward to a visit back in the next year or so

I lived in Brecon in the 60s. I lived in the Uplands and it was a fab place to live. I can't believe that it is the roughest part of Brecon. I have wonderful memories of growing up there. We lived at 36 Uplands. My Dad had a beautiful garden with a pond and waterfall, lots of rockery plants. It was just ideal. I only went back once with my Mum and sister when I was about 11 years old we stayed with Mrs Kolano. She had a jeweler shop. She has a son Bernard and daughter Erena. My memories of Brecon are wonderful but I suppose life goes on and changes. Will visit! again someday. I want to show my son where I grew up and went to school.

Josh - born in Brecon, now in catterick
I had loving parents, but unfortunately they were divorsed in 1997 and we lived in the roughest part of BHrecon, the uplands. It's always been rough up there, with nothing but alcohol and drugs. Many murders have been commited there as well. But when i moved to douglas, the army houses, life was getting better. However, it was still rough - which i guess wasnt good for me. I was always a nice child. Now i live in catterick, all the way up north, and i occasionally visit brecon to see my dad and also go to the brecon jazz. There is a lack of everything really for the young people of brecon. However, boredom can be got rid of as everyone in brecon knows eachother and everyone has a good time!I wish i could come back!!!

I was born in wales and went to St. Davids Ursuline Convent from about 1977-1983. I had wonderful friends, Joanna Tidewell, Maria-louisa Meredith and many more.I would love to get back in touch with these now ladies. I was reading all the comments and am sad to learn that our school was sold, and changed. I would love more information on it. Would someone be kind enough to fill me in on the details?

Brecon was an attractive, old fashioned market town slow, dull, expensive, out of touch but that's what was good about it.The powers that be have sold out to developers and wrecked the place, trying to fashion the town around a recent supermarket development and developing the rest of the place to look like any other block pavioured clone town. The hills are still there, a bit battered and tatty, the price of tourism. If you like alcohol this is the place for you, more pubs than shops. All in all there are lots of worse places to live.

I used to go to school at St Davids and found this whilst looking for information about the school. I was so sad to hear that it had been sold on and changed so much only to be abandoned again. It was such a lovely building, well the main one was I cant say the drafty dormitory was the nicest but it served a purpose! I dont come back to visit often enough but oddly everytime I have gone back I've seen at least one of the nuns who used to look after me! Shame theres not more about the school online. Must come back and visit soon.

I'm only 18 and so I know how little there is for young people to do in brecon, which has resulted in me doing a few scandalous things to cure the boredom. But now I'm in uni in a big city i love being home, i love the silence and being able to see the stars, something i miss living in the inner city. But i will always be proud of calling brecon home. me and friends also made up the 'brecon bungee cord' your always attached and it will let u go anywhere in the world but eventually it'll bring u back.

I gladly left Brecon many years ago, and only go back to see my Dad.Apart from the Golf Club, I have to say that the weekends spent back in Brecon are the most depressing and gruelling 48 hours, and if it wasn't for family, I would never dream of coming back again ever. An earlier post from someone applauding the arrival of Aldi, and looking forward to the arrival of Iceland just about sums it up for me.

I moved here 35 years ago from Swansea, and became part of a giant family. There is nowhere else quite like it, with the warmth and friendship extended so readily by the locals. Remarkably, people in Brecon live to a ripe old age, many eighty year olds still passing for sixty. I wonder if this will change as we are dragged into the twenty first century, I hope not.

Annoyed living in brecon
I have lived in this area all my life, so has my father and my late nan lived in Llanfaes.Unfortunately due to a marriage break-up some years back, i had to move out of my marital home. Ok you might think so what's the problem? The problem is this..... Why is it, a local person, who has also battled with a cancer scare and has severe bouts of clinical depression, can't get a council house???This totally annoys me, yet a single,un-employed,single mother or drug addict is given a top of the range house or flat? Something wrong somewhere.I have no choice but to privately rent, pride is one thing but struggling is another. Isn't it about time the council opened their eyes.Another thing too, when was the last time you heard somebody talking in welsh? exactly. Too many outsiders taking over money talks unfortunately.

Lived in Brecon for 33 years and was a postman there for nearly 10 of them. You say you need a bus service,we used to have one when I was growing up in Pennorth (5 miles out of town) but it got taken away so you HAVE to have a car, very green or what. Everything costs twice as much in Brecon than anywhere else on the planet and that’s from houses to cars to beer to parking the car and the wages for the "locals" doesn’t match the cost of living! Moved away 6 years ago and would never move back. Yes there is a world outside Brecon, just ask most of my mates my age who have also moved away. Unfortunately some of my family still live there so I do have to go back from time to time. Nice place to retire to but that’s what’s killing the town, nothing for the youngsters.

I lived in Brecon from the age of 8 years in 1967 up until 1980 when I married another Breconian, Terry Price. I loved living in Brecon. We used to congregate in the middle of town by the statue of Wellington. I had to move due to husbands working commitments, but my parents are still there in Prospect Close, so we visit frequently. I would move back tomorrow if circumstances let me, but alas it is not to be. I will be back some day!!

I have lived in brecon all my life and I find it a very nice place to live. Except in the uplands where there are lots of gangs. Brongarth every now and then gets set on fire. Also the local cyber café isnt open enough and they should have stricter policies.

I've lived in Brecon now for just over 4 years, 8 miles from the town centre. I was a little disappointed when I moved here with the lack of 'big name' High street shops, having moved here from a huge town in the North East (Gateshead). However, Brecon is now being dragged into the 21st Century, and we are now being given a few that the 'locals' have been fighting for over the last few years (and about time too!)such as Aldi, Homebase, and there's a rumour that Iceland is coming too. Hooray!!! Next on the agenda should be a MUCH better bus service to/from the outlying villages,%2! 0as one bus every 2 hours, (yes I did say 2 hours) is not good enough. Thank God I've got a car, but if/when it's off the road I was stranded a few times! It's a bit different for the locals, especially the younger ones as Lauren pointed out, as everything seems to cost something unless the weather is good. I've settled here now, and the slower pace of life has become a habit I'd rather not break.

Brecon, Is amazing, Although we all complain on times that there's nothing to do. Would you really live anywhere else? It could do with some more facilitys to get younger people, including myself, off the the streets, but there are also plenty of things to do.To name but a few..Camping at the login, Acting in the theatre, Walking along the canal, Sunbathing down the island fields, The prom, the list, however small we may think it, is endless. I will ALWAYS be proud of the fact that i am from brecon, and will never deny my roots
