U3A Brecon

Brecon Street

Last updated: 05 March 2009

In March 2009 Mike Dray told us about the Brecon branch of the University of the Third Age which opened in 1987. It caters for retired people who are looking for stimulation through monthly and informal talks.

  • Walking the Way to Health...

  • "Brecon U3A is one of the oldest U3A's having celebrated its 21st Anniversary last year.

We meet each week at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon and the current programme of talks is shown on our website -www.breconu3a.org.uk - which can be linked to on the right hand side of this page.

In addition to our Thursday meetings we have numerous special interest groups that meet throughout the week.

These special interest groups cover all sorts of topics and interest from Hill Walk, Strollers for the less active, Science, French conversation,Bookshelf, Creative Writing, Choir and many more. All listed on the website.

U3A is open to retired people or those over 55 but this is not strictly enforced as we do have a few member in their early 50's. The current membership is well over 200 but we are always pleased to see new faces.

A new U3A has now started in Hay on Wye but they only meet once a month at present and they also have some special interest groups who meet at various times.

The Secretary of Brecon U3A is Ian Ashton who lives in Builth Wells. The current Chairman is Mrs Jean Hosie. Contact details are on the website."
