The Roland Mathias Prize

A new literary prize for Welsh writing in English was awarded for the first time in Brecon on the 23rd March 2005. Click through a series of photos from this special occasion.

Roland Mathias and the shortlisted writers. 1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  Roland Mathias has played a major role in establishing Welsh writing in English as a distinctive literary genre. The prize is for work published in the fields of poetry, short stories, literary criticism and Welsh history and is open to any writer born in Wales or currently living in Wales. The first shortlist consited of three poets and a historian.
