Pen y Fan Pool
Last updated: 30 August 2006
These photos of a pool table on top of Pen y Fan were taken by Mike Davies from Neath and his grandson Richard as they climbed Pen y Fan on 29 August 2006.
Mike: "We took a leisurely walk to Pen Y Fan yesterday and at first, from a distance it looked like a twitchers hide out. But on close inspection it turned out to be none other than a pool table. The match between my grandson and myself must have been the highest match in Wales."
Mike was also on hand to see the pool table being carried down Pen y Fan the following weekend.

I was there that day, i had just reached the summit with my brother, we were pleased with out achievement, and then immediately humbled by such an amazing feat these people had pulled off.
There were rope handles all the way around the table, which they must have used to drag it up. amazing.

I know exactly how it got up there, I have the cuts and bruises that came with it. 21 of us set out from Dowlais Constitutional Club at 5am, waved off by the Mayor and his wife and Bev Nash of Cancer aid merthyr tydfil. We reached the summit after four and a half hours of sweat and blood. The highlight of the day was the generosity of all the ramblers who loved what we had achieved and we welcomed one and all to pot at least one ball. We hope many memories were etched with the day they played pool on Pen y Fan, the highest peak in Southern Britain.

Well after some research I eventually found that the team involved was from Mertyhyr and was running a charity event in aid of cancer, a well worthy cause,
"It was carried to Pen-y-Fan's summit, some 2,907ft (886m) high, by 20 men to help raise funds for the Merthyr Tydfil branch of the Cancer Aid charity.”
That in itself deserves a gold medal
