"The Mountain Trail Challenge will take place over the weekend of
20th-21st September 2008. There will be a Choice of Two Challenging Walks, the Full 30 Miles or the "Shorter" 17 Mile route.

The event's inaugural year will take place in the Brecon Beacons; the walk will take in the highest summit in the area "Pen-y-Fan" (886m) and will include some spectacular ridgeline walking as well as walking through forestry plantations and alongside some picturesque reservoirs and waterfalls.
The route will also take in some of the less trodden areas of the region giving you the opportunity to see the National Park as perhaps you have not seen it before.

Some of the Participants may be completing the challenge throughout the night, thus giving some the opportunity to experience some night time walking. (Don't forget your head torch!)
You can enter as an individual, as a pair or walk as a team. Do the Full or Short Route, it's up to you! Those completing the challenge will receive the Mountain Trail Challenge certificate.

Each of the main checkpoints will have a Marshal to mark your "Check-in Card" and to answer any questions you may have. Marshals will also be dotted along the way to offer encouragement.
This event is non-profit making; any profit will be used for marshalling equipment and to promote the event. The remainder will be donated to the Brecon Mountain Rescue."

With regards to Dustin Pitman's comments on Challenge Walk events for 14 to 18 year olds as well as adults, I can recommend the South Wales Three Peaks Trial. The event is based in Abergavenny and has four route options which vary in length between 10 and 20 miles.

I train A.T.C. cadets for adventure training and DofE and would dearly like to see some dispensation for those under 18 to take part maybee even if accompanied by adults even if only 14 and over as my son and many cadets would dearly like to take part. we allow dogs why not encourage the next generation rather than exclude them its worth it there the future.

Started walking in the beacons after open heart surgery in 2006.have climbed most of the mountains in beacons, carmarthen fans, and black mountains. would highly recommend this outdoor activity for the exercise, beautiful views, fresh air and companionship you meet when out on the hills. If I can do it anyone can, good luck and hope to see you soon out on the hills
