Borth Family Centre

Borth Family Centre

Last updated: 19 May 2010

Borth Family Centre was developed as a result of research into socially isolated communities that lacked family support provision. It is run by Catrin Evans of Plant Dewi, who told us more about the centre in May 2010:

  • Family Days Out...

  • "Borth was identified as having very little child centred faculties, and therefore, it was decided that it was important for a Plant Dewi project worker, funded by Cymorth, to go to the area and develop a service for families with children under 5.

Families with children up to 10 years of age are welcome during school holidays, but activities may be geared more towards the younger ones.

In September 2007, a parent and toddler group was established, attracting many families around the area.

In October 2008, this group developed into a family centre and has since supported over 50 families. It is currently situated at Borth Sports and Memorial Hall situated by the village park.

The family centre is currently a one day a week project, open every Tuesday, 11.30am until 3pm, but future funding will hopefully increase hours, provision and opportunities for the families.

A wide variety of activities takes place at the centre ranging from arts and crafts, cooking, fundraising, visits from agencies for example TWF, Speech and Language, Genesis, Health Visitors, and so on.

Local events are often attended by members of the centre, with families taking pride in partnership working with other groups and agencies.

The family centre is currently run by Catrin Evans from Plant Dewi and managed by the Management Committee with parents, local residents, the Police, the local nursery school, the health visitor and the community council being represented on it.

For more information on how you can become involved either by attending the centre, volunteering at the centre or joining the committee, contact Catrin on 01267 221551.
