I lived in Borth from 1980-1982 as a student studying in Aberystwyth. An amazing place very friendly place, Friendship Inn being a bit too friendly and taking most of my student grant. Pet-The-Meats home made sausages were legendry especially if he had had a few beers the night before. Sausage sandwich sitting on the sea wall great for a hangover. Lived in Bayview House which we rented off the legendary JD Williams.

I used to spend summers there during the late 60s/early 70s and became very good friends with Kay Morris. I also had a summer job in the Fruit & Veg shop - my first job (at age 14). Does anyone remember "Pete the Meat" - the local butcher. Also we used to hang out in the Captain's Cabin where I saw Arthur Brown - "Fire". Yes really!! Would be good to hear if anyone remembers this period.

RE. Terry Davies book. I was in email contact with Terry (who lives in Australia) until about 6 months ago. I was sharing with him a history of my Great Grandfather (John Jenkins) who was Borth mariner. I'll mail him and ask about the new book.

Loved reading about our former home, Borth and its interesting history. Its great to see the village has lost none of its charm and vibrancy. Would love to know if 'BORTH, A MARITIME HISTORY' has been published yet, and if so, how can we obtain a copy?

I used to stay at Borth as a child, at a hotel by the station. Was this the Cambrian Hotel, and has it been demolished?

As a post graduate student at Aberystwyth, I lived in Borth in 1968-69 with my wife and young family. We had a wonderful time and were made to feel so welcome by the local people. We returned for a brief holiday in the seventies, but alas have not been back since. We lived in a new bungalow on a rock outcrop by the railway level crossing in Ynyslas. We often think of Norman and Doreen the chemists, Aran Morris the greengrocer, Fenton Fielding at the garage, Pat and Sid Clare, Mrs Frances Jones and many others, who made that time so memorable in such a magical place.

HiI have a stroke so my vocabulary and mobility is not good but my brain cells are about 90% there and my hobby is Geneology, which keeps me sane!!!My research is of Davies, Family History at Borth. So far I’ve discovered Elizabeth Davies (born on 14 March 1848 at Morfa’r Borth) who was my Great Grandmother, and her parents were Abraham and Margaret (nee Evans) Davies.Abraham Davies married on the 2 December 1842 to Margaret Evans. He was a ‘Mariner’; father’s name was John Davies, a ‘Mariner’; and Thomas Evans, the bride‘s father, was a ‘Mariner’, also. I am trying to discover where there are all buried. The marriage was in ‘Llanfiangel Genui’r Glyn Parish Church’.Can I ask you where the church is in Borth AND whether the church would have a burial list of the tombstones in the churchyard which might contain some of my family, or where I could obtain one?

I'm currently doing research for a novel and wanted the setting to be in a beautiful coastal setting far away from London. I was Googling your continent and started reading about Cardigan Bay, then found photos and information about you beaches and wildlife refuges as well as the remains of an ancient forest under your sands.Although, I have never had the pleasure of visiting your fair land, yet, I would like to know for my research, if there are private homes that are near the beach and have a view of it. I am doing my best to get the facts down geographically. If anyone is interested in helping with a a basic education of your enchanting area I would be truly grateful. Thank you from a new American admirer and researching novelist.

If anyone is interested in reading a full, primarily maritime, history of borth, a book was published 3 years ago called "Borth a Seaborn Village", by Terry Davies, published by Gwasg Carreg Gwalch, another book is in the pipeline for publication in 2008 and will be called "Borth a Maritime History". This history can boast over 230 Master Mariners, remarkable for such a small vilage without its own port.

My mother, who was from Newtown, used to tell how her parents invested their savings in a row of seaside cottages in Borth, in 1930, but these were lost over time as the sea eroded the land on which they had been built. Is there any information that confirms that such a process actually happened, and if so when, and where in Borth they were located?

Borth has always been foremost in my family history because for some reason, yet unexplained, my Grandfather was born there in 1867, whereas the family always lived at Llanafan. I would love to find the reason, for the family to move to Borth as this time. Any ideas would be welcome.

As a child, we holidayed in Borth every year until I was a teenager. I have some very happy memories and as a new mum hope to bring my children to Borth. I vaguely remember the carnival, but also I remember a ceremony on the beach - something to do with placing a man on a chair in the sea and waiting for the tide to come in?! Does this still happen and if so, when does it occur?

To Aviv from Israel - try the Youth Hostel - called Morlais it is overlooking the beach. It is friendly and clean and Mathew the manager (I think) is helpful and welcoming. Food is ok and it is cheap.

I'm so pleased I've found this site. I love Borth. I'm curently doing research on the connections between Borth and Birmingham and would like some family histories. Brummies come to Borth and stay. Why and for how many generations have they been there? I shall be in Borth for the next few weekends ie 20 January 2007 onwards.I'd love to talk to you if you can help or even send me something via e mail.

I have just returned from a short holiday in a rented cottage on Angelsey. In the garden were two white pottery sheep both were labelled underneath "Clarous frost resistant terracotta. Borth Garden Centre." I would dearly like to find where I could purchase similar sheep but I cannot find any information about this garden centre. Can anyone please help me?

I lived in Borth between March and August 2003, and seeing this site has filled me with nostalgia. Borth is a beautiful, magical place and each day brought some new adventure, or chance meeting that would inevitably end up with a drink or two at the Friendship Inn. I met some wonderful people in Borth, a couple of whom I'm still in touch with, and many of whom I still think about often. I hope all my old friends are still there and thriving, and that perhaps we'll bump into each other again one day...Lots and lots of love to Borth and everyone who dwells there.
