Location: SN195519, 4 miles north of Cardigan.

Short description: Mwnt is a sheltered sandy cove, owned by the National Trust. This popular beach is off the beaten track but can still get busy in the height of summer. The steep steps leading to the beach make it unsuitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Directions: Take the B4548 Gwbert road from Cardigan. Just less than a mile along the B4548, take the right hand turn for Ferwig and follow the signposts for Mwnt. Note that the roads around here are very narrow and winding.

Car parking: Small charge for parking in a field above the beach.

Public Transport: No services operate directly to Mwnt. The nearest stop is at Felinwynt junction, Parcllyn - three miles away.

Swimming: Swimming conditions are considered safe at Mwnt but there is no lifeguard service here.

Walks: A well-trodden path circles Foel y Mwnt, leading to the top of the hill which overlooks the beach. The Ceredigion Heritage Coastal Path passes close by.

Awards: Blue Flag Award 2006; Green Coast Award 2006.

Dogs: Dogs are banned between 1 May and 30 September.

having visited mid wales on a number of occations we have only just come across mwnt, what a fantastic magical place it is, we can't wait to go back again soon, just to sit with a picnic watching the sun go down, it is like being in another world, and going this time of year(march) we had the place all to ourselves.

I know i live not far from Mwnt and you wonder why im bothering leaving a comment at all. Well to be honest with you, I have plenty of memories there. Im only 16 now and have been there many times with my cousins already who are only 2 & 3. I was a bridesmaid christmas time last year and they, my antie and uncle, decided to go to Mwnt for some pictures with all the important people of the day, and I was one of them! (: I suppose the sheep poo on the floor didnt really go with bride's dress but there we go. Happy memories at that. Views are amazing there, and will never forget my years that i have been visiting there monthly. I guess im very happy that i live near such ausome views. I would recommend for the families that enjoy the outdoor and amazing views to visit.

Well Mwnt has been the most loved place for many years to both my husband and our family. My husband has been going there for more than 50 yrs so has seen many changes. Our grandchildren are also hooked on the spectacular countyside. We remember when you could park on Mwnt sleep by the little church and watch the men off fishing soon after dawn. Its the best place ever.

A very special beach -one of the best in Wales. We visited in the sunshine last week and saw dolphins every day.The historic little church that sits on the headland above the beach adds to the timeless beauty, a tiny door evoking a sense of centuries past.A perfect place on a perfect day.

We have a caravan in Aberaeron, and whenever we go there, the first place i want to go is Mwnt. It's a wonderful, magical, special place.

We have just returned from visiting Mwnt for the first time today. We arrived at about 10am and were lucky enough to catch the dolphins swim by. It's a really lovely place for adults/teenagers and young children. Cost £2 for the car park all day and there is a little shop where you can buy food and drinks such as cornish pasties and hot chocolate or cold drinks. It also has clean toilet facilities.

The views are great on a clear day and the path/steps down to the beach are easily accessible for people with young children and buggies etc. The beach doesn't seem to get very crowded and feels very secluded and special.

There is a quaint church and a small campsite on the hills. The road to Mwnt is quite tight, especially if you have a large camper van, but this shouldn't put you off the visit as the roads don't get very busy! I would highly recommend the visit.

Mwnt or Barafundle? I love them equally! At Mwnt I saw dolphins leaping in the bay when the tide was right in.An unforgettable experience. Another time there was a very well fed seal pup, still in its white fur, waiting for its mum. It`s a trully magical place.

My boyfriend proposed to me last week whilst walking our dogs on the hill behind the little church in Mwnt! It's such a beautiful place. I've been visiting Mwnt since I was a little girl and the place is so special.

We used to holiday every year at whit in Wales and this was our favourite beach despite the steps!!Me and my brother got sun burnt really badly because it's a sun trap but it didn't stop us enjoying the place. My grandad loved it as he used to love spotting the dolphins.

Some 25 years ago my wife and I used to holiday regularly in South Wales. One year we spent two glorious weeks in Cardigan. Towards the end of the holiday, while in a shop picking postcards to send home I spotted a beach on one called Mwnt, never forgot the spelling. After enquiring as to its location, we decided to visit the following day. We were gobsmacked. I hope you take no offence but the photos' do not do the beach justice, we always compared it to anything Spain could offer albeit with a slightly chillier sea, like a glorious cove gouged out of the spectacular cliff. I have never forgotten it, which prompted me to google it and find your page. Maybe one day we will return once all the kids have moved on, I hope so.

What a beautiful spot. Well worth the walk down to the beach. A haven for children. A pearl on an unspoiled coastline. One of Wales best kept secrets

I spent a week last summer there and it had to be one of the best out of the way places I've been. And an amazing view at the sky on a clear night. truly great.

I used to love this little beach - I learnt to drive in the field used for parking. A great place to relax, please visit, highly recommended.

Excellent beach, safe bathing & good waves for body boarding. Handy shop at top supplying food, drinks, beachstuff & plasters when your kids fall over & scrape their knees. Bottle nose dolphin spotting, brilliant from beach even better from cliffs above especially with binoculars. Lucky to spot two pods on two evenings performing well, leaping out of the water. Suggest go there to see for yourself.
