Llangrannog Beach

Last updated: 07 July 2008

Find out more about Llangrannog in our guide to beaches along the Ceredigion coast.

Llangranog Beach

Location: SN310542. 13 miles north of Cardigan.

Short description: Llangrannog has a sheltered sandy beach known as 'Traeth y Pentref' (the village beach). It has a distinctive large rock on the shore's edge called 'Carreg Bica' which according to legend was once a giant's tooth. At low tide, you can walk past the rock to the hidden sandy cove of Cilborth. There is also a cliff path leading from the village to Cilborth which is not affected by the tide.

Directions: Take the A487 coast road north from Cardigan. After 10 miles, turn left at the village of Brynhoffnant signposted Llangrannog on the B4334.

Car parking: There is a small car park adjacent to the beach for a charge. Further free parking is available in the upper part of the village although spaces are at a premium during the summer months.

Public Transport: The 552 bus service, operated by Richards Bros, goes to Llangrannog. Use the links in our travel pages for more information.

Surfing: See Matt's surf guide.

Walks: The small sandy cove of Cilborth can be reached by walking north from the beach at low tide. If the tide is in, take the coastal path which starts near Caffi'r Patio. Continue walking to the peninsula known as Ynys Lochtyn.

Awards: Blue Flag Award and Green Coast Award 2006

Dogs: Dogs are banned between the 1 May and 30 September.

I like Llangrannog very much and spend lots of time there. It's got everything you need, lovely pub, great coffee shops and I think good parking if you don't mind walking. I was at Llangrannog on 31st May and was a bit disappointed as there were a lot of dogs on the beach, although they are banned from 1st May to 30th Sept.

This beach has everything (it's a shame about the pub car park at £3.50 now though). Beautiful sand - caves - spectacular setting - great eateries and ice cream. Well stocked shop - our kids really love it - one of my favourite places on earth !

This year The Ship Inn is charging £3.50 for parking...so if you want to park there is a FREE car park just before the village buildings start, on the left.

This wonderful rugged beach has fantastic golden sands and is an ideal place to spend some relaxation time. It has everything you need for a great relaxing day out.I have taken my family there on many occasions over the past 23 years. the ideal place for a tasty icecream, as it has a great icecream parlour, pub, and beach shop, if your in the area treat yourself and pay llangranog a visit. If your really lucky you may even see dolphins. Watch out for pirates and smugglers in the caves!
