Location: SN579812, South of the Castle in Aberystwyth.
Short description: The south beach at Aberystwyth is a sheltered sand and shingle beach sandwiched between the castle and the harbour breakwater.
Directions: Aberystwyth is on the A487 coast road.
Car parking: There is restricted parking along the prom and designated spaces towards the harbour. There is a paying car park below the castle and in the grounds of St Michael's Church, as well as car parks in the town centre (about a five minute walk from the beach).
Public Transport: There are regular bus services to Aberystwyth from Machynlleth, Cardigan and Carmarthen. Aberystwyth is also on the train line from Birmingham and Shrewsbury.
Surfing: The Harbour Trap is a popular spot although suitable for experienced surfers only. See more in Matt's surf guide.
Swimming: Swimming is considered safe and from mid-July to the end of August, Ceredigion's Beach Officer Lifeguard Service normally establishes patrolled bathing areas daily.
Walks: From Aberystwyth South Beach, you can walk the length of the prom to North beach and kick the bar at the far end. If you're feeling energetic you can climb Constitution Hill - o during the summer months, take the funicular railway to the top where there's a cafe and a camera obscura.

Dogs: Dogs are banned between the 1 May and 30 September.
