I met Sam in the seventies when I was working as Keeper at Chester Zoo. I helped him access the three young jaguar cubs we had then, so that he could take pictures of them subsequently to paint them. He very kindly gave me an original of one of the jaguar cubs. Thank you again Sam. It is a truly beautiful painting and I am proud to own it.

I went to school with "Sam's" daughter Sharon,and can remember him giving her several of his original paintings once prints had been run off.I particularly remember colourful big cat pictures , with perfect detailing, and maybe a charcoal branch in the background to highlight the main subject. Amazing artist!

Really interesting finding Sam`s website,I have seven of his wood engraving,limited edition,farm animal prints [signed and titled by the artist] We must have had them for 30 years or so,and bought them individually as we were able to afford them.

I've read all these questions and wonder how to get the answers. I too came across a Jaguar and Cub painting by R. Samaraweera. It has a professionally printed title with the artists name, is signed just "samaraweera", and looks like it is a pencil/pen etching. How can I find out more about the artist and the value of the piece. The website for the artist is not functioning.

I too have a very large print of the "Clouded Leopard" which I purchased from a gallery in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada some 30 years ago. It hangs in my office above my desk. As a previous posting noted, one feels that it is almost possible to stroke the coat of the leopard!

We have only had a pc for a short while, so I was delighted to rediscover Rama Sam's paintings. We met him and his wife quite a few years ago at Hatfield Craft Market, now a quite prestiguous annual art and crafts exhibition. We have three cat wood block prints, Boris, Albert and Oliver. Having cats ourselves, we recognise the familiar antics of these delightful and endearing pets. We also have: Pile of Pigs; Sleeping Pigs and Happy Pigs which watch over guests while they eat, and consequently have caused much amusement over the years. Thank you Sam for letting us share your talent, and! we wish you and your lovely wife all the best and we are delighted to have found your website.

I have a lot of Sam's paintings and they are much admired. One of our first paintings is of a snow leopard and that has pride of place in our hall. You can almost stroke the coat! They are a lovely couple and I wish them all the best.
