Rachel's Review - Aber Fashion

Rachel Moore

Last updated: 04 August 2008

Rachel Moore has worked for the free student magazine The Courier as artbox editor and in August 2008 she sent us this review of Aber's fashion hotspots:

"Okay girlies, gone are the days of unflattering, lifeless school uniforms and teachers telling you to conform to strict dress codes. You have made one of the most important decisions of your life and what better way to enjoy your time at university than to identify with and express your own creative fashion flair. Student fashion allows us to think outside the box and to uniquely reinvent ourselves. Here are a few hotspots that may invoke interest and always remember to exude your own confident individuality.

Polly

With three to choose from, each with a unique taste, Polly is speciality shopping encompassing quirky individuality. They offer colourful tops, flowery miniskirts, La Rochelle Skirts and boxy shoulder bags. In addition, beautiful dresses are available including dandelion tunics which coupled with a cute Alcona cardigan will look the part this autumn.

Her Dandy Wolf

Her Dandy Wolf reminds me of Little Red Riding Hood except she now possesses a credit card, buys better clothes and the wolf is a style guru. Combining stylishly printed lamari tunic dresses, vintage necklaces reigning supreme and floral printed skirts, the ground floor is an Aladdin's cave of vintage treasures.

Queenie Wahinie

Stepping into Queenie Wahini resembles rebellion. If you are enthusiastic about rock and imagine mixing this with the styling of golden goddess Marilyn Monroe then you will be flaunting unique wackiness with a hint of poise. It consists of sexy printed corsets, long pencil skirts and killer heel shoes. Hells angel central.

Café Society

With urban music pulsating throughout the store, Café Society caters for all your street fashion needs. The Lee Leola seasonal jean will hug the waist comfortably and colourful neck tees will make a statement. Be sure to check out the deliciously delectable chocolate printed wellie's, bright funky shoulder bags and decorative clutch bags.

Charity shops

These are great for a multitude of reasons, especially if your budget is tight. They stock a wide variety of items, giving you more reasons to experiment whilst always being handy for socials if you don't want to dip too much into your pockets. Lastly and most importantly, they are for a good cause!

High Street Stores

Looking for familiar territory? Shops such as New Look are there to guide you in the latest high street trends. Apart from Hula and shimmy, try the light weight roll up jean, so you don't overheat walking up Penglais Hill. Lace frill cami's, ra ra skirts and printed tee's are also currently popular. "
