"The Lion House, Shop and Mill is part of a semi detached welsh stone complex consisting of the Golden Lion Inn, and Little Lion Cottage which sits at the other side. The line of premises was built in the early 1800s, and they are as pretty now in their Grade II listed status as they were then.
We bought The Lion House in May 2008 and started work at the beginning of July. We pulled up carpets and took down Victorian woodwork effects that weren't in total keeping with the cottage. It had 3 bedrooms, and one night working away, burning the candle at both ends, we pulled back a fake wall and found the most wonderful sight. A complete original panelled partition, Stunning!!! Completely beautiful in original paint work and everything. And so this went on, unearthing all sorts of original surfaces and structures.
The house regained a beauty that only Welsh cottages have in their full glory and honesty. We liked the house before but we were completely falling head over heals for every interesting detail.
At the beginning of the year we entered Herefordshire Arts week, because Powys were not running their open studios this year, and we wanted to meet everyone, and tell people we were there for commissions, and art events etc. So I entered, thinking the worst that we were too far away.
But they loved our work and we were given a place. We are really excited as we are the first artists from Mid Wales, so far from the border given a place.
So here we are opening 13 September, running till 21 September.
We have a home, studios, and an amazing old shop (shoe and cloths shop) opening the doors for the first time in 50 years to art lovers and artists, friends and neighbours. We are doing performances, films and live art for the Private View Special night on 18 September and we would like any supporters to come and meet us and have a look at what we have done and will continue to do with our little slice of paradise, The Lion House. The welsh stone pile that has given 2 artists the chance to make work and live and the rest will take care of itself."
