"Newtown & District Canine Society held its annual Limited to Members Dog Show on Sunday 2nd March at the Maldwyn Leisure Centre in Newtown.

The show attracted an entry of 84 dogs from Telford to South Wales. For the first time the Society was delighted to receive support from James Wellbeloved ensuring everyone placed received samples of their products in addition to the winners and reserves prizes.

The Society welcomes James Wellbeloved's support for dog shows and hopes to work with them again for their next show.

40 Classes were offered and judged by Mrs. Marion Penwarne from Staunton on Wye, herself a breeder of Champion Rough Collies and Shetland Sheepdogs.

The top awards were:

Best in Show: Golden Retriever, Trebettyn Takin' it Easy handled by Mrs. E. Stevenson from Llanidloes

Reserve Best in Show: Pomeranian, Tayfirs Star Stricker at Elmway handled by Ms. G. Watt from Leominster

Best Puppy in Show: Cairn Terrier, Wyeafon Miss Minnie handled by Mrs. M. R. Jones from Builth Wells

Reserve Best Puppy: Shetland Sheepdog, Benravia Rising Moon handled by Miss E. Benstead of Tregaron

Afterwards, the Show Manager, Richard Welch stated how pleased he was with the entry and was delighted to receive the Judge's comments about the high standard of the dogs.

Mr. Welch was also delighted that several young people, one only seven years old did well in the show and that enquiries were received from others keen to learn about showing their dogs.

They were advised of Ringcraft classes held by members at 7.30pm every Thursday at Caersws Village Club.

Whilst its next show has judges already, the Society is still seeking to expand its register of Judges for its shows, and qualified interested parties can contact Mr. Welch.

The Society is planning an Open Show on Sunday October 19th 2008 at the Maldwyn Leisure Centre."
