It has been a while since I logged on to see Aber through its webcams and I have just seen the message from Ron Meredith of Brisbane - Hi Ron, nice to hear from you. I live in Cornwall but try to get back to Aber as often as I can.Joyce (Davies as was) Molineaux

Hi folks, I've been researching Robert Doughton, my ancestor, your former Mayor in 1907, who had something to do with the promenade you talk about with great love. Nice to read these comments! From California:

I think the Town Hall webcam is great. I miss Aber so much and come home (always will be home) as much as I can. I still have quite a lot of family here, Clive my brother, and lots of lovely nieces and nephews. There is something so very special about Aberystwyth. I miss the promenade so much. When we were children we used to dodge the waves on the prom near Consti. How we survived I will never know. Colin, my husband, misses Devils Bridge, we both want to come home.

I miss Aberystwyth. I spent many years there at the Uni and miss them all very much especially one character...he was some kind of wonderful wizard! He worked nights and used to walk the floors of Penbryn Halls where he actually showed me how to use their computers more than the departments there did. Okay, he had more time than they did and hey....he too was getting paid. We used to feel safe when we heard his footsteps 3 times a night on his rounds. But "Alan" was more than that...

Just an idea - perhaps there should be 2 message boards - one for ex students and one for Aber boys (and girls). I'm glad all the Aber stuff is here although it sometimes makes the hiraeth a bit worse.

I check the cams once a week and at different times of day. I still have a few Edwards family relatives living there, and a few friends as well. My grandmother came to the U.S. in 1916, but all of our family members were inspired by our trips there in '67,'90, and '97. The beautiful green countryside, Constitution Hill, and many other places will remain special memories forever in my mind. Also thanks to all who saved Alexandria Hall where my grandmother was educated at the cooking school back in the early 1900's.

Webcams of Aber! Whatever next - still I suppose it gives the world a wondeful view of all those Aber students staggering home after a night in the Angel, or the Cwps, or the Llew Du, or the... It's a wonder anyone remembers their time in Aber, what with all those pubs. The Wetherspoons is definitely a mistake, I much preferred it when it was a railway station. Oh, fond memories of British Rail! How about webcams of Eldon Square in Dollgellau, or outside the castle in Harlech?

I like the addition of the new camera, and wouldn't mind a couple more as I miss Aber quite considerably as an ex student. It would be quite good to have one installed by the Union so that it overlooks the beach etc.

    Wayne Carter in Essex
The new Portland Street cam is an interesting choice! Any new pic of Aber is welcome but I do agree with those citing Great Darkgate St/Pier St. Something sited on the Old Col overlooking the Pier and Pier St would be groovy as would something stuck to the Uni library overlooking the SU and the Great Hall. OK lets go for it - every pub in Aber, there's a thought!

Thank you for the new cam.It brings Aber.a little bit closer.

How wonderful to have another Aber webcam, I also visit the cams page every day. I agree with Hefin Jones re having a camera to look down Pier Street, Great Darkgate street etc. I would also like one looking down North Parade and Terrace Road towards the Wetherspoons pub.

Great. I use it as a weather check. Very useful

    Alison Owen, Walsall
As an ex-student I visit the cams page almost daily and how excited was I to find that a third cam had been put to work? Very. What a fantastic new year's gift from the Beeb - this service is worth the licence fee alone. The last time I was there I walked down this very street in the pouring rain and got soaked to the skin - happy memories!
    Wed Jan 4 16:26:02 2006

    Hefin Jones from Harrogate
It's great to have another webcam of Aber; the problem with a view looking down Portland Street is that it runs in a S'Westlerly direction and will be exposed to the overhead sunlight. I still feel that the best spot would be at the top of Great Darkgate Street, a camera which could be rotated to look down Pier Street, Gt Dkt Street, Bridge St and up towards The Angel. A live streaming video.....YESSSSS! It was nice to see my old mate Herbie Thomas (Jamaica) had posted an entry on the King's Hall page....(still trying to play darts are you???? LOL) Keep up the good work Mid Wales team and thanks.
