"In 1873, just a year after the university had opened, a new campaign began for the establishment of a National Welsh Library in Aberystwyth. Large numbers of books were accumulated; many were also pledged to the University. However, an appropriate building needed to be found to house these books. This came with the original purchase of land on Penglais hill with views overlooking the sea. The National Library Of Wales serves as a useful research tool for locals and students alike."

In 1887 my great grandfather's company - S. Belham & Co. was given the contract to rebuild the College after the fire.

My great great grandfather was one of the three men who died in the fire. His name was Samuel Morgan Jones.
