I lived opposite Gwalia Garage above what was then 'The Wool Shop', now a bike shop, from 1946-54. I went to North Road school. I remember Shiloh chapel, a grocer's on the corner of Vaenor Street, trees growing on the side of the road, lamps strung across the street. I remember it being a nice street to live in.

My Grandpa Charles Jones owned Gwalia garage with his brothers. My Dad, Ernie, grew up there. I have fond memories of holidays there, sitting in the office above the garage playing with the typewriter.

North Parade will be forever in my memory. I was born in '62' next door to Gwalia Garage. It was a 'family ' street especially at times such the Coronation when we all had one big party in the street. I remember you well Peter Wilson and your family of Thespian Street and of course so many more. I was one of the 'Gwalia' and went to North Road school. I remember the evacuees arriving from Liverpool with labels on their lapels. I would love to hear from others that lived in the parade. My grandfather Charles Abel Jones who ran the garaage lived with us in 62.

One of my earliest recollections of North Parade was during the war. I lived around the corner in Thespian Street, and I can remember an air-raid shelter in the middle of the road in North Parade. It was between the Gwalia Garage and the Queen's Road junction - opposite Price the grocers and Dewars the dressmakers shops. I cannot remember it ever being used, and have no idea when it was demolished.

The car park of the new Morlan centre for faith and culture (at the top of North Parade) is being planted up right now. The view of this end of North Parade should be different in a few weeks! (Pobl Aberystywth: bydd pethau i'ch atgoffa chi o'r hen gapel Seilo yn y cynllun plannu.)

Translation: People of Aberystwyth, there will be something to remind you of the old Capel Seilo in the planting scheme.

In the 1950s I remember the trees had been given the "Aber haircut", I suppose the real term is pollard or something like that. I lived at the far end in Vaenor Street in the days of the Liberal Club and Gwalia Garage and no hotels or restaurants and no central reservation in the road.
